A Republic carrier was a type of capital ship that specialized in ferrying and launching fightercraft and were used by the Republic Navy during the Clone Wars.^[1]

CharacteristicsEdit

Carriers served alongside Republic warships. This distinction between the types seemed to emphasise the carrier-duty over the warship-duty. In contrast, the Venator-class Star Destroyer, a contemporary design, served in both capacities, but was emphasised as being a "warship".^[1]

HistoryEdit

The V-wing starfighter was known to be carried onboard these ships, and were often released in swarms during combat.^[1] At the Battle of Coruscant in 19 BBY, KDY carriers formed part of the Republic's fleet.^[2]

Behind the scenesEdit

Although the CR20 troop carrier is sometimes referred to as a Republic carrier, it is too small to support "swarms" of V-wing fighters and therefore, the carriers mentioned here are of a different and larger design.
