The Resolute was a Venator-class Star Destroyer that served in the Fifth Fleet of the Galactic Republic naval forces' Open Circle Fleet, and also served as the flagship of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and his fleet during the Clone Wars. In 20 BBY, the Resolute, alongside a fleet of Republic warships, engaged the Separatist fleet of Dark Acolyte Asajj Ventress in the Sullust system. During the battle, the Resolute was attacked by Ventress in a Ginivex-class fanblade starfighter and droid tri-fighters, which attacked several of the vessel's vital systems, while Ventress assaulted the bridge, resulting in the Resolute's destruction, but not before its crew managed to escape the vessel.

Stationed aboard the Resolute's command bridge was the vessel's leadership unit, Resolute Command. Skywalker's Padawan, Jedi Commander Ahsoka Tano, was part of the command organization and assisted her master during the Battle of Bothawui, who was leading the V-19 Torrent starfighter Gold Squadron against the Separatist fleet of the Kaleesh warlord General Grievous.

Description[]

As a Venator-class Star Destroyer of the Galactic Republic's naval forces,[1] the Resolute had two bridges that were painted red to signify its position as a flagship,[10] as well as hangar bays located on the vessel's dorsal,[3] ventral, and starboard hull.[9] The Star Destroyer was also equipped with a hyperdrive generator and several engine units for propulsion,[3] while it also possessed several DBY-827 heavy turbolaser turrets, medium dual turbolaser cannons,[5] and a deflector shield generator for defense.[4]

History[]

During the Clone Wars, the Resolute was given to Jedi General Anakin Skywalker as his flagship. Skywalker commanded the Star Destroyer alongside Admiral Wullf Yularen as its captain.[1]

Battle of Christophsis[]

Defeating Trench[]

"Over-fire all reactors. We're gonna blow right past this guy, whoever he is."
―Anakin Skywalker, ordering the Resolute to charge the blockade[4]
BlockadeChristophsis

Skywalker's fleet exchanges fire with the Separatist blockade.

In 22 BBY,[11] during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Confederacy's Droid Army under the command of Kerkoiden General Whorm Loathsom and Sith assassin Asajj Ventress were sent by Separatist Head of State Count Dooku to capture the planet Christophsis,[21] due to its resources and strategic position along the Corellian Run.[22] After the Confederacy's capture of the planet, a blockade of thirty warships was established in orbit under Harch Admiral Trench to prevent the Republic from interfering, which resulted in Senator Bail Organa and his troopers becoming trapped on the surface. Sometime later, Jedi General Anakin Skywalker aboard the Resolute, alongside a fleet of two other Venator-class Star Destroyers and three Pelta-class frigates, were dispatched by the Republic to break through the blockade and deliver relief supplies to Senator Organa.[4]

Following their arrival, the Resolute and its accompanying warships proceeded to engage Trench's fleet, trading fire with the Separatist battleships. However, while the two fleets fired upon one another, the Separatist flagship made its advancement on the Resolute unopposed, forcing the Star Destroyer's crew to raise its forward shields to maximum power. Releasing a barrage of turbolaser fire upon the Republic fleet, the dreadnought managed to destroy one of the frigates, which resulted in Skywalker ordering the fleet to charge through the blockade, despite the loss of one of the frigates.[4]

Leesis Republic forces

The Republic fleet reconvenes behind Leesis.

Shortly thereafter, Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi arrived in the system aboard his flagship, the Negotiator, and ordered Skywalker and his fleet to withdraw and restrategize behind the moon of Leesis. Following Kenobi's command, the Resolute and its accompanying vessels retreated to the other side of the moon, where Skywalker was given orders to sneak past the blockade in a prototype stealth ship and deliver the supplies. However, despite his instructions, Skywalker instead went on the offensive and used the stealth ship to destroy Trench's flagship, which sent the entire blockade into disarray as Kenobi, the Resolute, and the rest of the Republic forces resumed their attack.[4]

Continued battle[]

Kaliida Shoals

The Resolute docked with a Haven-class medical station.

Sometime later, as the Republic forces engaged the Separatist Droid Army on the surface, Generals Kenobi and Skywalker, depleted in resources, ordered the Resolute and Admiral Yularen to withdraw from the system for additional reinforcements and supplies. Rendezvousing with a Haven-class medical station, where the Resolute was loaded with supplies, Yularen was contacted by Jedi Masters Yoda and Mace Windu, who ordered the admiral to deliver a messenger with important orders to Kenobi on Christophsis.[1]

Returning to the Christoph system, Yularen quickly sent the messenger, Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano, to the surface aboard a Nu-class transport from the Resolute. After landing on the surface, the two Jedi explained their situation to the young Padawan, who suggested that they relay a signal to the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant through the Resolute. However, amid their conversation with Yoda, the Resolute, battered by enemy turbolaser fire, lost connection with the Temple and was subsequently forced out of orbit as more Separatist warships arrived in the system.[1]

The Malevolence campaign[]

Later in the war, during the hunt for the Separatist Subjugator-class heavy cruiser Malevolence, a ship armed with two mega-ion cannons powerful enough to disable entire fleets, the Republic managed to track the vessel to the Abregado system, dispatching a fleet of three Venators under Jedi General Plo Koon to the system. Upon their arrival, Koon contacted General Skywalker and Commander Tano aboard the Resolute in the nearby Bith system in hopes of receiving reinforcements. However, amid their conversation, Skywalker lost contact with Koon and his fleet, which had been destroyed by the Malevolence, resulting in both Skywalker and Tano departing to the Abregado system in search of survivors. The two Jedi managed to locate and rescue Koon and several clone troopers who had survived the battle, but came across the Malevolence afterwards, forcing them to retreat from the system and return to the Resolute with the survivors and information on the Separatist battleship.[9]

Sometime later, after the Malevolence destroyed a Republic medical convoy in the Ryndellia system, Skywalker, believing that Grievous was to target their Outer Rim medical station, devised a counterattack with the help of Shadow Squadron, an elite Republic starfighter squadron of BTL-B Y-wing starfighter/bombers. Departing from the Resolute, Skywalker, alongside his Padawan, Koon, and Shadow Squadron, took a shortcut through the Kaliida Nebula, where they met with the Malevolence upon exiting the nebula. As the battle began, the Republic squadron proceeded to make their attack run on the Separatist battleship, targeting its command bridge in order to destroy it and Grievous, but lost almost half of their fighters during their run, forcing them to break off and target the Malevolence's ion cannon, overloading the weapon and crippling the entire warship upon its attempt to fire. After suffering extensive damage, the Resolute, the Negotiator and another Venator-class Star Destroyer exited hyperspace and began to pursue the fleeing enemy warship.[3]

VenatorTurbolasers-SoM

The Resolute and two other Venators fire upon the Malevolence.

As the Malevolence fled the system, Republic Senator Padmé Amidala arrived in the system and was taken aboard the Separatist warship, which forced to the three Star Destroyers to cease fire as Skywalker and Kenobi left to rescue the Senator. After successfully rescuing Amidala from the Malevolence, the Resolute and the two other Star Destroyers resumed fire, but the Separatist warship, which had been sabotaged by Skywalker during Amidala's rescue, was destroyed as it crashed into the nearby Dead Moon of Antar.[20]

Battle of Ryloth[]

During the Battle of Ryloth, the Resolute's command bridge was seriously damaged; Yularen was injured as well.[6]

Battle of Quell[]

Resolute-SWM41

Resolute comes under attack from Vulture droid fighters entering Quell's atmosphere.

When Jedi Master Aayla Secura was in need of reinforcements to fight the Separatists over Quell, the Resolute was sent. After the battle, they were sent to find Skywalker, Secura, Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, Commander Bly, and clone troopers Lucky, Flash, and Cameron.[15]

Second Battle of Geonosis[]

When the Second Battle of Geonosis occurred, the Resolute was sent, along with three other Venator-class Star Destroyers and eight Acclamator-class transgalactic military assault ships which attacked Geonosis.[16]

Battle of Kamino[]

When a Separatist invasion fleet arrived on Kamino, the Resolute was among the Republic ships that defended the planet.[18]

Destruction[]

ResoluteDestroyed-Nightsisters

The destruction of the Resolute

At the Battle of Sullust, it was destroyed by Sith Assassin Asajj Ventress and her droid tri-fighters, which attacked the Resolute's twin bridges simultaneously, knocking out its controls as the rest of the ship systematically exploded and was evacuated.[12][23]
