Chief Retwin was a Human male hailing from the Core World Ralltiir. Retwin originally served in Ralltiir's defense forces as an Imperial sympathizer, before joining the Empire following the Imperial subjugation of his homeworld shortly prior to the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY. Retwin later served aboard the Super Star Destroyer Executor, the personal flagship of the Dark Lord Darth Vader, during the Imperial subjugation of Bespin's Cloud City in early 3 ABY.

BiographyEdit

Imperial sympathizerEdit

The Human male Retwin was a native of the prosperous Core World Ralltiir. By the time of the Galactic Empire, Retwin, an Imperial sympathizer, worked for his homeworld's defense forces.^[3] Just days prior to the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, Emperor Palpatine ordered a brutal subjugation of Ralltiir to silence local pro-Rebel sentiment.^[4] Retwin joined the Empire following Ralltiir's subjugation and eventually enlisted in the Imperial Navy.^[3]

Service aboard the ExecutorEdit

By early 3 ABY, Retwin had earned a chief position aboard the Super Star Destroyer Executor,^[3] flagship of the Imperial Navy^[5] and the personal command ship of the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader. Retwin was present aboard the Executor's bridge during the Imperial pursuit of the Rebel fugitives Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, and Lando Calrissian in their starship, the Millennium Falcon, from Bespin's Cloud City in the midst of the city's Imperial subjugation.^[2]

From aboard the bridge of the Super Star Destroyer, Retwin paid witness to the Rebels' eventual escape into hyperspace, eluding capture at Vader's hands. Those aboard the bridge had expected Vader to angrily execute Admiral Firmus Piett, the Executor's commanding officer, for allowing the Rebels to escape, as the Dark Lord had done previously with officers of similar circumstance. But Vader simply stalked off the bridge in defeat, too distracted to kill his admiral.^[2]

Retwin stood by in silence, eyes down and working on a datapad, as Vader passed by his position at the rear of the bridge. Retwin only turned to gaze momentarily behind him at Vader, who had shown an uncharacteristic display of mercy.^[2]

Personality and traitsEdit

Retwin sympathized with the Galactic Empire while still residing on his homeworld of Ralltiir. After joining the Imperial Military, Retwin became a highly skilled saboteur.^[1] He had dark hair and light skin.^[2]

Behind the scenesEdit

Retwin first appeared briefly as an Imperial officer extra during the final scene aboard the Super Star Destroyer Executor in the 1980 film Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Retwin, who pauses from his work to peer at Vader after the Dark Lord fails to capture Luke Skywalker, is the final Imperial character focused on-camera in the film.^[2] The Retwin character was first provided a name and a brief backstory on the "Chief Retwin" card from the November 1997 Cloud City Limited expansion set of the Star Wars Customizable Card Game.^[3]
