The Rhen Var Citadel was an ancient structure, possibly built by the Jedi due to its large robed-figured statue that stood in its center. There is also the possibility that it was a Sith tomb, due to its similar characteristics to those of Korriban. Another explanation is that is was built by natives before their extinction. It included a large courtyard, an ancient crypt, and an observatory.
During the Galactic Civil War the citadel was used by the Galactic Empire, where they set up a monitoring station to observe Rebel Alliance fleet movements. When the Rebels discovered the Imperial station, they launched a sabotage mission to destroy it. They took the citadel but were quickly defeated when Imperial forces arrived. The citadel was then razed to the ground.
