Rian Johnson (born December 17, 1973) is an American film and television writer and director. On June 20, 2014, news outlets began reporting that Johnson had been tapped as the writer and director of Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi.[4] These reports were confirmed by a spokesperson for Johnson on June 23, 2014.[2] Some of the story ideas and elements for Claudia Gray's novel Bloodline came from Johnson himself.[5]

He filmed a cameo appearance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
