Captain Rislar served in the Imperial Navy aboard a customs cutter, before leaving service to work as a pirate and ship-jacker. Later, this included a stint working as a privateer for the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Rislar grew knowledgeable about numerous arms and equipment, and later shared this knowledge on Gundark's Gear Datalog.
Rislar served in the Imperial Navy of the Galactic Empire, rising to the rank of captain and commanding a small cutter for Imperial Customs. On one occasion, the cutter was attacked by a crew of pirates; one of the pirates was armed with a BlasTech Firespray DL-87, which blew a hole right through the starship's airlock, resulting in half the cutter's crew being sucked out into vacuum. Most of the rest of the crew was killed by the pirates, although Rislar survived the encounter.
The captain later left the Imperial Navy and struck out as a pirate and ship-jacker, in command of a crew. Rislar gave each member of the crew an elegant LaserHone Duelist vibrorapier in order to win their loyalty. The pirate believed this was one reason that none of the crew ever challenged for command.
Rislar preferred weapons that could subdue opponents with minimal casualties. As such, the pirate often used DAS-430 Neural Inhibitors and stun grenades. These also proved useful when encountering hostile stormtroopers. In the final years of the Rebellion, at what Rislar considered a career low point, the pirate signed up with the Alliance to Restore the Republic as a privateer. While having an Alliance observer aboard was not particularly pleasant, the privateer did appreciate the shipping schedules the Alliance provided. Rislar ceased working with the Alliance shortly after it transitioned into the New Republic.
Personality and traitsEdit
Rislar was a reasonably successful commander, having never been challenged for command by crewmembers. This was in part due to the loyalty won by gift-giving. The pirate preferred non-lethal means of securing cargo, but nonetheless was prepared for combat. Rislar's favorite weapon was the BlasTech T-6 "Thunderer" Heavy Blaster Pistol.
Behind the scenesEdit
Rislar appeared in Gundark's Fantastic Technology: Personal Gear, a West End Games roleplaying game sourcebook published in 1997. Seven comments on the in-universe message boards used to describe various equipment throughout the book were attributed to the pirate. Rislar's gender and species were not identified.
