Roark Garnet was a smuggler.

At some point in his career, Garnet was aboard a bathysphere with some Imperial in the atmosphere of a Jovian gas giant. He took control of the vehicle from the last remaining Imperial, just in time to avoid collision with a huge gray lifeform.^[1]

At some point, Garnet engaged in combat four stormtroopers and the female bounty hunter Jana Jarel, who managed to shoot the smuggler, but her second shot was dodged by Roark.^[2]

When Roark made an unscheduled delivery to New Bakstre, his ship, the Dorion Discus was forced down by Imperial Customs cruisers and crash-landed in a forest. Not much later the Regina Cayli Imperial transport landed and deployed its complement of stormtroopers, who searched the crash site and captured Hawk Carrow, the freighter's co-pilot. Garnet evaded the search parties and infiltrated Regina Cayli through an open and unguarded landing ramp. He got to the Imperial transport's infirmary and managed to rescue his co-pilot.^[3]

Sometimes later in the Thorgeld system the Imperial Customs Frigate Assessor was attempting to inspect the Dorion Discus, but one of the passengers, the bounty hunter Tantos Dree convinced Garnet that they should escape the Imperials. They dropped the idea of Garnet's long-lost daughter, Jill Farseeker, who suggested to drop Tantos with a rope out of the airlock. Garnet evaded a shot of the frigate, but got one before they jumped to lightspeed.^[4]

Sometimes later Garnet crash-landed the Discus again, now on Tatooine. This time he flew with the Wookiee Nagraoao, who was wounded in the crash. Since the bacta tank and all medical supplies were destroyed, Roark got the idea of cauterizing the wound with his blaster, though the Wookiee complained.^[5]

Sometimes later Garnet run into strange pyramidal ships, which caused heavy damage in the Discus. It took three days of hard work to repair the ship.^[6]

On the next trip, the Discus flew into a meteor storm and suffered damage again. This time Garnet brought Nagroao as a co-pilot. They began repairing the ship together and passed it quite well, when pyramidal ships appeared again around the Discus with a noiseless fluctuation of the Force.^[6]

At some point, Garnet was bold enough to attack the Fallen Jedi Jimbo Kinnison with a club, while the latter had a lightsaber.^[7]

After one of its numerous battle, Goark tried to repair the Discus. His attempt was so successful, that he managed to increase the sublight speed by removing a faulty hydrovalve.^[5]

Sometimes later Garnet visited a planet in a trinary system. After he got some trouble, he fled with a speeder bike, but a stormtrooper chased him. Garnet unsuccessfully tried to lose the trooper in a canyon. After their vehicles slammed to each other, both driver collided with the obstacles of the canyon.^[8]

Later Garnet got involved a battle with the Imperials. His wingmen were destroyed and he faced four TIE fighter alone, but he destroyed all four and got only minimal damage.^[9]

Sometimes later, Hawk Carrow and Nagraoao were prisoners in the spice mines of Kessel. Garnet took the Discus to the Kessel system to rescue his friend, but was stopped for inspection by a Star Destroyer. Garnet bribed the Navy officer to let him go.^[9]

Garnet was the captain of several smuggling ships during his career, including the Moldy Crow and the Dorion Discus, the latter of which was formerly owned by his late sister, Neena.^[10]

Some time prior to the Battle of Endor, Garnet visited the Forest Moon of Endor. While there, a short-statured Yuzzum named J'ywz'gnk Kchhllbrxcstk Et'nrmdndlcvtbrx sneaked aboard, accidentally becoming trapped. Garnet took a liking to the alien, which he nicknamed "Furball," and particularly enjoyed his singing. The alien stayed aboard for several months performing menial tasks for Garnet such as cooking and cleaning, and the smuggler was able to teach him a small amount of Basic. At a stopover on Nar Shaddaa, however, Furball wandered off, attracted by music played by a band, eventually joining them under the stage name of Joh Yowza.^[11]

During the Galactic Civil War, the young Rebel operative Selnia Harbright contracted Garnet to transport stolen Imperial medical supplies to the Calus system.^[source?]

Roark was cocky and brave like most smugglers. He never left his friends or companions in trouble, and wasn't afraid to confront even the Galactic Empire, when someone close to him was in trouble.^[3]

Roark had some relationship with the mother of Jill Farseeker. Sometimes later he lost contact with his family, but later he met again his daughter.^[4]

Roark passed the Driver Education course.^[3]

Garnet showed advanced mechanical skill, when he repaired the malfunctioning repulsorlift of the bathysphere in the atmosphere of a Jovian planet.^[1] His repair skills were even better, when he successfully increased the sublight speed of the Discus by removing a faulty hydrovalve.^[5]

Behind the scenesEdit

Roark Garnet was one of several "example characters" used to illustrate character creation and gameplay in the first edition of Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.

When Garnet repaired the repulsorlift of the bathysphere, he should have repair the inertial compensator instead, since he said they had been exposed to the full gravity of the planet. This error may be solved by assuming that the two systems were connected and the failure of the previous caused the malfunction of the latter.
