Saché was a female Human who served as one of the handmaidens of Queen Padmé Amidala of Naboo.
Biography[]
Saché was one of the younger handmaidens, Yané being the youngest.[3] She and the other handmaidens were trained in self-defense and marksmanship by Queen Amidala's head of security, Captain Panaka.[4]
During the Trade Federation Crisis, Saché and Yané remained behind when the queen and the other three handmaidens fled Naboo with Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi.[2]
Of all the handmaidens, Saché was the only one not to attend the Celebration Parade, even though she was present at Qui-Gon Jinn's funeral ceremony.[2]
During the Galactic Civil War between the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire, Saché was present in the Mauler Stronghold, the headquarters of the group of assassins known as the Maulers, situated near the city of Keren.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
- "I asked George if I could come and watch the shoot, and he asked if I wanted to be in the royal entourage. (…) I'm at the back with a hood on and you can't really see me. I don't even remember what my character was called."
- ―Sofia Coppola, about her role as Saché
Saché was portrayed by Sofia Coppola in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[2] Coppola considers George Lucas, a long-time friend and working partner of her father Francis Ford Coppola, "like an uncle to me—he used to send me and my brother Roman Star Wars toys when we were little," and upon hearing he was going back to the saga, "thought it'd be so fun to see how they make them" as she was preparing her own directorial debut, The Virgin Suicides. When she asked Lucas if she could attend the shoot, he offered her the role of Saché, and she accepted as "it seemed like a good vantage point to watch without getting in the way."[6]
Saché was a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[5] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[7] Saché was added to the game with the release of the "Publish 25," a.k.a. the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005.[8] Saché and four other Queen Amidala's handmaidens — Eirtaé, Rabé, Sabé and Yané — were intended to be featured in a quest named "Helping the Handmaidens," included in the Naboo part of the so-called "Legacy Quest," the longest questline in the game.[9] The quest was never finalized and the handmaidens did not make her way to the game but Saché. Hence, this character was not involved in any quest.[5]
