[edit] Biography
[edit] Alderaan Peace Conference
- "I just can't shake the sense that there's something more to these peace talks than the Jedi Council is aware of..."
- ―Satele, prior to the Sacking of Coruscant[src]
Satele Shan was the Padawan of the Jedi Master Dar'nala. After she became a Jedi Knight, Shan and her former master were chosen to represent the Jedi Order in peace talks with the Sith Empire on Alderaan, prior to the Sacking of Coruscant. After the true intentions of the Sith were revealed, Shan attacked Lord Baras, the Sith peace representative. After briefly crossing lightsabers with the Sith, she stood down upon the request of Dar'nala. Grand Master Zym would later discuss Shan's actions with Dar'nala, and ask that the Jedi Knight personally apologize to Baras.
[edit] After the Treaty
- "Nothing makes sense right now."
- ―Satele, after learning of Master Dar'nala's death[src]
After the Treaty of Coruscant was signed, she and her former Master were sent by Jedi Master Zym towards the Outer Rim to oversee Republic troop withdrawals in accordance with the treaty. Dar'nala was angered by this as she felt that Zym was only trying to keep them out of the way. She was also upset on Shan's behalf since she felt that Zym should consult with Shan as she was one of the few Jedi who sensed the Sith's double-cross. Dar'nala grew even more furious when she suspected SP-99, a Sith constructed droid, of spying on their conversation.
After she left the room, Shan apologized to the droid for her Master's actions. As they were passing through the Kuat sector of the Core Worlds, the Imperial transport they were traveling on came under attack by a Sith warship. Imperial commandos immediately boarded the Republic ship and proceeded to capture Dar'nala. Shan dispatched her attackers, earning a reminder from SP-99 that she was violating the treaty by doing so.
After seeing her former Master captured by Sith forces, Dar'nala told Shan to run and inform the Jedi Council of what had transpired. Shan escaped the ship, with SP-99 in tow, aboard an escape pod. Though she was unable to aid Dar'nala, Shan vowed to return and rescue her former master. Hearing from SP-99 that it would take 500,000 years for them to be located in that sector, Shan remarked that she would be learning patience after all.
Satele's escape pod was found soon after, but by Mandalorians slavers bound for Geonosis. Luckily for her, a Republic shuttle arrived and drove off the slavers. Satele was brought aboard the shuttle to find Master Orgus Din and Lieutenant Harron Tavus. Satele reported everything to Master Din. SP-99 tried to discredit Satele when she claimed the Sith had restarted the war, but Orgus shut him up. He said he had to inform Master Zym of these recent events, as well as finish his mission to Balmorra.
The group reported the incident to Zym. When the Senate heard of it, they began screaming for a return to war. Tavus asked Zym if that meant they were free to rescue Master Dar'nala, but Zym informed them that they had intercepted an Imperial transmission saying Dar'nala had been executed for helping a Sith prisoner escape. Satele was devestated, and isolated herself. Tavus, however, was able to comfort her by saying they were all in it together.
The group later arrived on Balmorra. After Master Din stopped Fortris Gall from furthering the battle, he assigned his former apprentice to join Tavus and Shan in helping the withdraw on Dantooine. Since Gall was going to take his own ship, it would just be Tavus, Shan, and SP-99. During the ride, Tavus asked Satele if they could spend some alone time together once the Dantooine mission was over. Satele was intrigued by Tavus' offer, and said that it would be nice, but she was reluctant to pursue a relationship with him since she was a Jedi.
After arriving on Dantooine, the pair reported to the Republic base and spoke with the commanding officer. They then got a message from the acting Chancellor saying Zym had been killed and the Senate building had been bombed. The major refused to leave Dantooine, and Tavus agreed. Satele also learned that Fortris had already arrived and was helping the Republic forces continue the battle with the Sith. But despite everything that was happening, Satele still hoped for peace.
[edit] Behind the scenes
Shan has been confirmed as a descendant of a main character from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.[1] Due to her surname, many fans believe that she is the descendant of Bastila Shan. It is also stated that she may be able to use battle meditation, Bastila's most distinctive ability.
It is not currently known whether Shan will play a role in the upcoming video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, because in a press release BioWare revealed that the story in the comic Star Wars: The Old Republic, Threat of Peace Act 1: Treaty of Coruscant will span the three decades between the Treaty of Coruscant and the start of the game. This possibly places Satele at an advanced age when the game begins.
