- "Sounds like a ship full of Ezras."

The Sato's Hammer was a beat-up YT-2400 light freighter that lacked a functioning hyperdrive. It was equipped with several laser cannons including a top double turret Cannon. Sato's Hammer was also equipped with deflector shields. The ship also had an airlock and a docking ring for connecting with other starships. The freighter was also equipped with cargo boxes that were loaded with explosives.
During the Age of the Empire, the Sato's Hammer served as the base of operations for a small rebel cell at Mykapo. calling themselves the Iron Squadron. The cell was led by the human Mart Mattin's father and consisted of Mart, the Theelin Gooti Terez, the human Jonner Jin, and the astromech droid R3-A3. Following the death of Mart's father, Mart took command of the Sato's Hammer and the Iron Squadron. The cell maintained no contact with other rebel groups including his uncle Commander Jun Sato, who led the Phoenix Squadron
In 2 BBY, the Sato's Hammer was attacked by an Imperial advance patrol. The Galactic Empire had imposed martial law on Mykapo. The starship was involved in a skirmish with TIE fighters and a Gozanti-class cruiser. During the fighting, the ship sustained damage to her hyperdrive. Shortly later, the Phoenix Leader Hera Syndulla arrived with Phoenix Squadron and wiped out the starfighters. This allowed the Sato's Hammer to drop explosive-laden cargo onto the Gozanti cruiser.
Later, Hera docked her starship the Ghost with the Sato's Hammer. She and her crew Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, and the astromech Chopper visited the Sato's Hammer and found the ship in a dilapidated state. Chopper got into a brief fight with R3-A3, who was protective of the ship's systems. Hera and her crew tried to persuade Mart and the Iron Squadron to leave with them. However, the Iron Squadron refused to leave Mykapo, which they regarded as their home. Meanwhile, Grand Admiral Thrawn dispatched Admiral Kassius Konstantine to deal with the Iron Squadron.
While Hera and the rest of Phoenix Squadron left, Ezra, Sabine, and Chopper stayed behind to convince the Iron Squadron to leave. In order to win them over, Sabine and Chopper helped R3-A3 to repair the damaged ship's hyperdrive. The three managed to repair the hyperdrive but their efforts came to naught when Mart diverted the power to the cannons and deflector shields. When Admiral Konstantinos arrived, Mart wanted to take on the Empire even though the Sato's Hammer was not in a condition to fight. Ezra and Sabine managed to convince the other members of Iron Squadron to leave with them.
The Sato's Hammer was no match for the Imperial forces and its engine was damaged. One of Konstantine's TIE bombers planted a magno-mine on the ship's hull. Konstantine's allowed Mart to send a distress signal in order to lure his rebel friends into a trap. However, Hera and Ezra saw through this trap and devised a counter-strategy. They led Konstantine's TIE fighters on a pursuit while Chopper and R3-A3 removed the mine. With the ship unable to jump into hyperspace on its own, Hera magnetized the Ghost to the Sato's Hammer. Commander Sato's forces then ambushed Konstantine's ship's.
Mart then dropped the magno-mine on Konstantine's Imperial light cruiser, damaging the vessel. The Sato's Hammer then managed to flee into hyperspace shortly after Thrawn arrived on his Imperial Star Destroyer Chimaera. The Ghost ferried the Sato's Hammer back to Chopper Base on the planet Atollon.
