Scree

Insectoid creatures that inhabited the Vergesso asteroids, the Scree were a nonsentient species of spacefaring insects that attacked anything that ventured near their asteroid field.

Able to survive in the vacuum of space and armed with pincers that secreted corrosive juices able to melt the hardest of starship hulls, the Scree vented gas from their own bodies for locomotion. These vicious insects were known throughout the Galaxy for the hundreds of ships that they had destroyed over the centuries.

Scree is also a term for the loose rock of all sizes found at the base of mountains, cliffs, and other sorts of rocky outcroppings throughout known space and on countless planets.
