The Sector Governance Decree,[1] also known as Sector Control Decree, was an amendment to the Galactic Constitution[3] passed by Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine of the Galactic Republic[1] around 19 BBY,[2] a short time before the end of the Clone Wars against the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[3] As the name implied,[1] it gave Palpatine the power to[3] install a new system of sectorial governorship,[1] giving those governors power within the sectors they were assigned.[3]

Palpatine could send the newly appointed governors to unite neighboring star systems into cooperative groups. The Decree also enabled the governors to turn all production facilities within their systems into facilities focused on the war effort.[3] The Delegation of 2,000, a group of two thousand concerned political figures, created the Petition of 2,000, which notably demanded the abrogation of the decree.[1] The system of governorship remained in place during the Imperial Era and outlived the Imperial Senate, which was dissolved by Palpatine[4] in 0 ABY.[5]
