Sel-Makor was a mysterious entity that resided in the Dark Heart on the planet Voss. It seemingly fed on violence, suffering and death of the Voss where a manifestation of its corruption began to form in the Nightmare Lands by the time of the Cold War. The creature's origin were actually traced to distant times when the Sith invaded. At this time, the Sith ignored the native race but it was the arrival of the Jedi that altered the fate of the race. Seeking an ally, they taught the native species how to use the Force. However, they were unprepared for this knowledge and it transformed their race. This split the species into two with some transforming into the Voss and the others becoming Gormak. An affect of this split was the creation of the Dark side of the Force that was Sel-Makor.

Following its creation, the creature lived at the Dark Heart where it attempted to feed on the suffering of the Voss by deliberating inciting hostilities between the Voss and Gormak. These actions fed Sel-Makor and through this it spread the territory of the Nightmare Lands. Amongst these acts included providing visions to the Gormak Jokull and incited his subjects to creating a starship. These feats were accomplished through an agent of entity that became known as the Avatar of Sel-Makor. In addition, Sel-Makor imprisoned the Voss that served as the Voice of the Emperor and kept him from killing himself, thus preventing this Voice of the Sith Emperor from seeking a new voice. This changed only when the Emperor's Wrath arrived at which point Sel-Makor forcibly took possession of the Voice in order to battle the Sith Warrior. However, Sel-Makor was defeated and thus was unable to stop the Voss host to the Emperor's Voice from being slain.

The Voss Mystic Valen-Da saw a vision of the future that showed the death of Sel-Makor which would begin a new age on Voss. This vision involved a Jedi Knight who would slay the Sith Lord Fulminiss whereupon the Voss commando Tala-Reh would give up her own life to bring about Sel-Makor's demise. Before this came to pass, this entity asked the Jedi Knight to throw the Mystic into its dark maw where it promised a reward of power similar to the one it offered the Sith. It intended to unleash a powerful madness plague across the planet which would have led to many deaths.
