The Republic Executive Building, also called the Senate Office Building, Executive Annex Dome, and Senate Annex, was a large, domed administration building and spaceport in the Senate District of Galactic City on Coruscant. Established during the Supreme Chancellor Palpatine's administration, the Executive Building served the leader of the Galactic Republic and later the Galactic Empire as an office building and transit area.

Inspired by newly elected Supreme Chancellor Palpatine's dislike for the Presidential Tower of the Senate Building, the Republic Executive Building was designed as an annex to the Senate's delegation offices.[3] Consisting of grand office spaces and several tiered hangar levels, the Executive Building's spacious chambers were quickly occupied by the wealthiest Senators who did not wish to travel far from the Senate Rotunda.[2]
Taking up residence in a specialty suite in the higher levels of the building, Chancellor Palpatine helped guide the Republic to ruin in a meticulously crafted plan from the Executive Building; a plan that went undetected by the Senate and the Jedi High Council. As the Clone Wars erupted between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Senators came and went from the office as worlds seceded or were conquered.[2]
Early in the conflict, the Executive Building was attacked by the infamous bounty hunter Cad Bane and a gang of assassins. Infiltrating the building's security station and holding several notable senators hostage in a public corridor, Bane demanded the release of the notorious Ziro the Hutt. Despite efforts by Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker to see to the release of the Senators, the Republic freed the Hutt and the bounty hunters escaped. To ensure their own escape, Bane detonated a series of laser-triggered bombs, destroying part of the east wing.[4]

Soon after, the Chancellor ordered the housing and study of a dangerous Zillo Beast from Malastare at the nearby Republic Science and Technical Center,[5] but it soon escaped and went on a rampage through the city. Damaging dozens of structures and killing hundreds, the gargantuan beast reached the Executive Building and quickly scaled the building. As the building was evacuated, the Chancellor attempted to escape in his Executive ship, only to be caught in the massive clutches of the Zillo. After a tense standoff, several Jedi were able to subdue the creature and the Zillo Beast was soon attacked with gas bombs before falling off the building to its death.[6]
Following the attack on Coruscant by Supreme Commander Grievous and the ensuing abduction of Chancellor Palpatine, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Anakin Skywalker escorted the Chancellor back to the Executive Building where he was greeted by his retinue of allies and supporters in the Senate.[7] Meanwhile, on the lower levels, a covert group of Senators known as the Republic Group met with smuggler Tobb Jadak in order to use his ship, the Stellar Envoy for a covert mission. Installing the encrypted device aboard the ship, the Senators and the ship safely departed before a group of Senate Security shock troopers could detain them.[8] Within days of the Chancellor's return, Grievous was killed on Utapau and Master Mace Windu and a cadre of the Jedi Order's finest swordsmen entered the building and attempted to arrest Chancellor Palpatine, who they believed to be the Dark Lord of the Sith who was controlling the war.[7]
Lying in wait, the Chancellor revealed himself as Darth Sidious and slew Masters Agen Kolar, Kit Fisto and Saesee Tiin before entering into a fierce lightsaber duel with Master Windu. Before Windu could deliver the killing blow to the Sith Lord, traitorous Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker aided in killing Windu and setting in motion the events that would topple the Jedi Order and replace the Republic with the first Galactic Empire.[7]
Galactic Empire
Edit
After the formation of the Empire, self-proclaimed Emperor Palpatine relocated his place of residence to the Palace of the Republic, which he renamed the Imperial Palace. Despite the construction of his new throne room, Palpatine continued to occasion his offices in the Executive Building to meet with Senators or other guests. Secret chambers within the Executive Building were used to hold captured Jedi during the Great Jedi Purge; Darth Vader tortured Padawan Dama Montalvo in his attempt to track down Obi-Wan Kenobi.[9]
Layout

Erected within the Legislative Borough of the Senate District, the Republic Executive Building was built over the old foundations of the long-since removed Coruscant Spaceport. A large dome situated at the center of several broad thoroughfares, the dome was the largest of several annexes in close vicinity to the Senate Building. Designed to complement the Rotunda, the building was built to alleviate the cramped office conditions in the Senate Building caused by the increased number of seats doled out to new member worlds. Not only an office building, the Executive Building contained several levels of hangar bays and landing pads for the official transports of the Galactic Senators.[10]
The offices of the Supreme Chancellor were located towards the top of the building, from which Palpatine conducted meetings with the Loyalist Committee, delegation leaders and members of the Jedi High Council. Along the outside of the building, enhance security measures ensured the safety of the Chancellor from attacks from the outside.[10] Aside from the Chancellor, several prominent members of the Senate held offices within the building, including Padmé Amidala of the Chommell sector, Bail Organa of Alderaan, and Mee Deechi of Umbara.
The highest of the Executive Building's multi-level landing dock was reserved for Senators and delegation leaders with offices in the building. Executive shuttles, speeders and gunships docked here to accommodate guests of the Senators, ranging from Jedi to diplomats or planetary rulers. Attendant droids, load-lifters and pilot automatons were on hand to assist Republic officials on each level; larger vessels, such as diplomatic cruisers, star skiffs and light stock freighters, could dock in some of the larger landing bays on the lower tiers. The main docking level deposited visitors into the cavernous, open-air atrium that led deep into the buildings labyrinthine interior.[7]
