Senate Security, its members known as Senate Security Officers (SSO) during the Galactic Republic, were elite Republic soldiers assigned as security forces in charge of protecting the Galactic Senate and Senate Building. Later, their responsibilities were handed over to the Senate Guard which would continue for several centuries till the fall of the Republic. Decades later, Senate Security would be reestablished under the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances to protect the Galactic Alliance Senate and the rebuilt Senate Building.

OverviewEdit

During the Galactic Republic, Senate Security was composed of soldiers and used military ranks including sergeant.^[2] Under the Galactic Alliance, the security forces were police officers with security experience. They worked closely with the Coruscant Security Force and Galactic Alliance Security. Senate Security was based out of the Senate Building security center.^[5] They also operated the Senate Communications Center.^[1]

HistoryEdit

The SSOs were in service as early as the Great Galactic War and subsequent Cold War. Though they were assigned to the Senate Building and the Senate District, SSOs could be deployed like other Republic military units. In one instance, several SSOs were sent with a Republic fleet to claim the planet of Sebaddon. After the conclusion of the mission, Supreme Commander Stantorrs reassigned some of the SSOs as part of a special unit under the command of Republic Special Forces Lieutenant Larin Moxla.^[2]

The Senate Guard was later established to protect the Senators and the Senate Building in place of Senate Security. The Senate Guard would continue this for centuries, until the fall of the Republic.^[4]

During the Clone Wars, clone shock troopers of the Coruscant Guard used the title of Senate Security to identify themselves when they were patrolling the Senate District.^[6]

After the formation of the Galactic Alliance and the establishment of the Galactic Alliance Senate, Senate Security was reestablished to protect the rebuilt Senate Building and its members.^[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

Senate Security was originally created as a security force for the Galactic Alliance Senate in the novels set in the Legacy era though the title also appeared in the Millennium Falcon novel. Later they appeared in Star Wars: The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance establishing them during the Old Republic era before the formation of the Senate Guard.
