The Shadda Nebula was a collection of gases^[2] in the Toblain sector of the Outer Rim Territories, at galactic coordinates O-18.^[1] It was formed by the star Shadda sometime before^[2] 43 ABY,^[3] when it expanded to become a red giant^[2]—a post-main sequence star, which, along with the other red giants, formed than less than one percent of the total stars in the galaxy^[4]—and shed its outer layers. Shadda then began to cool into a white dwarf,^[2] a compact white star, whose type constituted seven percent of all stars in the galaxy.^[4]

The Shadda Nebula was first mentioned in The Essential Atlas,^[2] a Del Rey reference book written by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry^[5] and published on August 18, 2009. It later received an entry in Star Wars: The Essential Atlas Online Companion, an online appendix on StarWars.com, listing all known star systems in the galaxy.^[1]
