The Shadda Nebula was a collection of gases[2] in the Toblain sector of the Outer Rim Territories, at galactic coordinates O-18.[1] It was formed by the star Shadda sometime before[2] 43 ABY,[3] when it expanded to become a red giant[2]—a post-main sequence star, which, along with the other red giants, formed than less than one percent of the total stars in the galaxy[4]—and shed its outer layers. Shadda then began to cool into a white dwarf,[2] a compact white star, whose type constituted seven percent of all stars in the galaxy.[4]
Behind the scenes
The Shadda Nebula was first mentioned in The Essential Atlas,[2] a Del Rey reference book written by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry[5] and published on August 18, 2009. It later received an entry in Star Wars: The Essential Atlas Online Companion, an online appendix on StarWars.com, listing all known star systems in the galaxy.[1]
