Shalam was a planet bombarded by the Emperor's Disciple under Ishin-Il-Raz during the height of the Galactic Empire.

Fifteen years after the Battle of Endor, Han Solo went on a smuggling run for old time's sake and agreed to smuggle a cargo of Jandarra vegetables — an import with an imposed 100 percent tariff — from Jubilar to Shalam that would require slipping past the Shalamite Navy patrolling the planet.

Ironically, at the same time Leia Organa Solo was visiting the planet's monarch, Gareth, on a diplomatic mission for the New Republic.
