Shear mites were a large insect form of life that were known to construct hives and were native to the planet Dathomir.

Their name originated from the powerful razor-sharp mandibles they possessed, which were used in conjunction with a powerful acid they produced that allowed them to consume solid rock. The female of the species were known to secrete a powerful adhesive that acted in a manner similar to cement and was considered the strongest known substance of its kind in the galaxy.
