This article is about the species. You may be looking for the language, or the Sith Order.

The Sith were a red-skinned species with tentacles, susceptible to using the dark side of the Force. They shared their name with the Sith Order, a religious organization of Force-sensitives who also used the dark side.[1]

Centuries before the Galactic Civil War, a member of the Sith species was part of the Darkseekers, a specialized sect within the Sith Order. During their attack on the Ascendant temple, the lightsaber wielding Sith stabbed the Ascendant member Ilith, which ultimately led to his death.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Reintroduction into Star Wars canon[]

The Sith, as a species were canonically mentioned in Star Wars Workbook: 3rd Grade Reading and Writing, published in 2017 by Workman Publishing.[1] The species first appeared in a flashback sequence in the twenty-ninth issue of the comic series Star Wars: Doctor Aphra (2020) by Alyssa Wong.

The Sith species in Star Wars Legends

In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the species were first mentioned in the first issue of The Freedon Nadd Uprising story arc of the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi series of comic books,[3] written by Tom Veitch, illustrated by Tony Akins, and published by Dark Horse Comics on August 2, 1994.[4] They made their first appearance in the first issue of Dark Lords of the Sith story arc of the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi series of comic books, written by Tom Veitch and Kevin J. Anderson, penciled by Chris Gossett,[5] and published on October 4, 1994.[6] The issue pictured[5] the Human/Sith hybrid[7] Naga Sadow with a more Human appearance, while Vodo-Siosk Baas described him as "a member of an elite priesthood, of pure Sith blood."[5]

The species appears in a flashback sequence reminiscent of the completely-red flashback from Doctor Aphra (2020) 29, which obscures the skin color, in the comic Tales of the Jedi – The Golden Age of the Sith 0, written by Kevin J. Anderson, penciled by Dario Carrasco, Jr., and published by Dark Horse Comics[8] on July 1, 1996.[9] The modern depiction of the red-skinned Sith species appeared in the second issue of The Golden Age of the Sith story arc of the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi series of comic books, written by Kevin J. Anderson and penciled by Dario Carrasco, Jr.,[10] and published on November 13, 1996.[11]

The species was later retconned by the 2012 reference book Book of Sith: Secrets from the Dark Side when the book pictured Sith King Adas to have made their first appearance in a flashback sequence in the fifth issue of the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi comic miniseries, written by Tom Veitch and published by Dark Horse Comics[12] on February 15, 1994.[13]
