Hundreds of years before the Great Sith War, a Sith sorceress conducted an experiment on the planet Ambria in the Mid Rim which resulted in the devastation of the world.

The Sith sorceress made Ambria her home thousands of years before the Battle of Yavin, enslaving the native species and forcing them to construct a giant black obelisk. After a century of construction, the obelisk was completed, and the Sorceress attempted to perform an ancient Sith ritual. The Sith magic involved, however, proved far too advanced for her, and she released a wave of dark side energy, transforming the planet into a barren wasteland. The obelisk was destroyed, and the sorceress and the Ambrian species were wiped out.
