"Slammer" was the nickname of a clone trooper pilot who served in the Galactic Republic's Navy during the Clone Wars, and by 21 BBY, was serving under the call sign "Blue Three" in Blue Squadron. That same year, Blue Squadron was part of the Republic strike force dispatched to the planet Ryloth to eradicate a Confederate blockade around the world. Led by Jedi Commander Ahsoka Tano, Blue Squadron was tasked with destroying the Confederacy fleet's flagship. However, as the squadron made its way towards the enemy flagship, the Republic fleet met heavy resistance from the Confederacy's Vulture droid starfighters and Munificent-class frigates, forcing the strike forces' commanders—Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and Admiral Wullf Yularen—to order a retreat. Blue Squadron eventually returned to the Republic's command ship, but not before all but two of Blue Squadrons' ten clone trooper pilots were killed.

A clone of the Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett,[1] Slammer was the nickname of a clone trooper pilot[2] born on the planet Kamino to fight for the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. During his training as a clone pilot, Slammer learned how to operate a variety of starfighters for the Republic Navy.[1] By the year 21 BBY,[3] Slammer was serving in Blue Squadron, flying under the call sign "Blue Three" alongside squadmates Kickback, Tucker, Swoop, and squad leader Axe.[2]

In 21 BBY,[3] the Confederacy of Independent Systems seized control of the planet Ryloth and its Twi'lek populace, placing a strong Confederate blockade under the command of Captain Mar Tuuk around the planet. The Jedi Council dispatched a Republic fleet, including Slammer and Blue Squadron, under the command of Admiral Wullf Yularen and Jedi General Anakin Skywalker to Ryloth. The Republic flotilla was ordered to destroy the Confederate blockade, allowing Republic ground forces to land on Ryloth and liberate the planet. Blue Squadron was tasked with destroying Tuuk's command ship, and was placed under the command Skywalker's Padawan, Jedi Commander Ahsoka Tano,[2] even though she had never before led a fighter squadron into battle before.[4]

Upon arriving out of hyperspace over Ryloth, the Republic task force began to engage the Confederate blockade, while Tano, flying her Jedi starfighter, and Blue Squadron, piloting V-19 Torrent starfighters, launched from the hangar bay of Skywalker's Venator-class Star Destroyer, the Resolute. As Slammer and the rest of Blue Squadron made their way toward the enemy fleet, they were attacked by a tier of Confederate Vulture droid starfighters. Blue Squadron began to take several casualties, but pushed on, cutting a path through the incoming Vulture droids. However, as the squadron neared Tuuk's flagship, Confederate reinforcements arrived in the form of four Munificent-class star frigates, outnumbering the Republic forces.[2]

With the Republic fleet taking heavy fire from the Confederate frigates and droid starfighters, Yularen and Skywalker ordered a full retreat. The strike force commanders also told Tano to return to the Resolute, but the stubborn Padawan disobeyed her superiors and continued with her assault.[2] However, Slammer and Blue Squadron began to take more casualties from the enemy turbolasers and Vulture droids, losing Tucker in the barrage.[5] Overwhelmed, Tano finally obeyed her orders and warned Slammer and the other remaining members of Blue Squadron to retreat to the Republic fleet. As they headed back towards the Resolute, Blue Squadron was pursued by the Vulture droids. Slammer, under pressure from the enemy fighters, was unable to help Axe when his squad leader called on him for assistance, resulting in Axe too being shot down by the Vulture droids.[2]Aside from Tano, the only survivors of the original ten clone pilots of Blue Squadron which managed to return to the Resolute, which fled into hyperspace as soon as the remainders of the squadron boarded the ship were Swoop, and Kickback.[5][6]

Personality and traitsEdit

Slammer was a clone pilot trained to handle a variety of starfighters for the Grand Army of the Republic,[1] but he was not skilled enough to save Axe when his squad leader asked Slammer for help during the battle over Ryloth. He wore white Phase I clone trooper armor with blue markings on the armor's helmet.[2] Like all clone troopers, Slammer stood at a height of 1.83 meters.[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

Slammer's first appearance was in "Storm Over Ryloth", an episode in the first season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series. "Storm over Ryloth" first aired on February 27, 2009, and in the episode, Slammer is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, who voices all the clone troopers in the show.[5]
