Slaver permits were legal documents somewhat similar in principal to a Letter of Marque and reprisal. The Galactic Empire issued them to slaver guilds for a fee, the permit was designed to regulate the slave trade throughout the galaxy. When the New Republic was founded and slavery abolished, the permits lost their legal power. Some slave trading organizations, such as the Zygerrian Slavers Guild, were able to acquire permits at a reduced cost due to their size and structure.
