Sodium existed in salt water on many planets. On other worlds such as Tatooine it was found in the form of sodium sand, mixed with fine mineral particles.

Processed sodium sand was used in several polymers and glues used in industrial construction. Caused by the heavy competition between the sodium sand-rich worlds and the existence of a dozen other substitutes, the market value of sodium sand was in constant flux.

Salt is commonly mistaken for sodium, but it is actually sodium chloride.
