Spaceward Ho![8] was a Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry utilized by the Galactic Republic's military against the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone War.[3][7] It was distinguishable by the nose art of a green-skinned female Twi'lek pin-up model, posing in a seductive manner, present on both sides of the gunship's bow[3][7]—as well as marked tallies that indicated an amassed total of fourteen vulture droid starfighters, destroyed, accompanied by the total number of, approximately, thirty-three bombs dropped on targets.[3][7]

Characteristics[]

Spaceward Ho! was an LAAT/i vehicle that was 17.69 meters-long, 6.94 meters-tall,[2] 17 meters-wide.[1] The vessel was propelled by engines, situated within the rear of the hull. It was equipped with the armament of; three antipersonnel turrets, two of which were chin-mounted, at its bow, while a third was mounted at its aft; accompanied with two dorsal-mounted mass-driver missile launchers. Although, the gunship did not possess the additional pair of composite-beam laser turrets, mounted at the port and starboard sides of the bow.

The nose art depicted a posed Twi'lek pin-up model,[8] situated on both sides of gunship, as well as the vessel's nickname written in Aurebesh. Present on the left-hand side of the bow, were the eroded markings of six distinct vulture droid starfighters (four, red in coloration and two grey), including the illustrations of approximately sixteen bombs,[3] whereas, on the right-hand side, there were eight markings of starfighters (five red in coloration and two grey), with approximately seventeen illustrations of bombs.[7]

The Twi'lek motif in the nose art was also featured in the poster Leku Lex!.[9]

Present at Teth[]

The Spaceward Ho! was stationed— along with another LAAT/i, the Lucky Lekku—within the hangar bay of Jedi General, Anakin Skywalker's Acclamator-class transgalactic military assault ship, which had traveled to it's destination of Teth, with the objective of attacking the Confederate defense emplacements, on the B'omarr Order Monastery, located there.[3] The Republic forces were sent to, primarily, retrieve Rotta, as promised to Jabba the Hutt, as he was abducted by Sith acolyte Asajj Ventress from the Khetanna, on his homeworld of Tatooine, sometime before.[3]

The gunship was situated, behind, to the far-left of the position General Skywalker would receive awaited reconnaissance intelligence from two Advanced Recon Force troopers, sent to survey the extent of the Teth Monastery's defenses, until the arrival of Republic reinforcements. They reported that the Teth Monastery was fortified and heavily guarded by at least two battalions of battle droids.[3]

The Battle of Ryloth[]

At some point before the Battle of Ryloth, the Spaceward Ho! was relocated to serve with Skywalker's personal fleet, on his flagship, the Venator-class Star Destroyer, Resolute of the Fifth Fleet, within the Open Circle Armada, where it was stationed—once again, together with Lucky Lekku—within the starship's hanger.[7][8]

Behind the scenes[]

The Spaceward Ho! had its first appearance, within the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film, in which it was seen on an Acclamator-class assault ship, before the Battle of Teth. Since the debut of the gunship, their has been a limited appearance of the vessel, within Star Wars: The Clone Wars' first season—specifically the episodes, "Storm Over Ryloth" and "Landing at Point Rain," the former of which's Episode Guide first identified the vessel.

The stylized and expressive nose-art of a pin-up model depicted on both sides of the gunship, along with various LAAT vehicles, within the series, are a homage and reflection to real-world pin-up art—usually buxom and scantily-clad models and actresses—that were painted onto aircraft, such as bomber and fighter planes, by their crews, during the Second World War and beyond.

The Spaceward Ho! shares its name with a science-fiction computer game released in 1990.
