"Scuttle-butt is he took out the anti-orbital ion cannons of Spefik single-handed."
―An Imperial pilot, on Ranulf Trommer[src]

Spefik was a barren, rocky planet in the Atrivis sector of the Outer Rim Territories. The planet was home to a Rebel base during the Galactic Civil War; however, the base was destroyed by Imperial forces in the battle of Spefik around 0.5 ABY. Imperial pilot Ranulf Trommer distinguished himself in that battle.

Description

Spefik was a desolate, barren, rocky Outer Rim planet,[1] located in the Spefik system of the Atrivis sector.[2]

History

During the Galactic Civil War, Spefik was home to a Rebel group fighting against the Galactic Empire. They protected their base with anti-orbital ion cannons; however, this defense ultimately proved insufficient against the Imperial Navy. During the battle of Spefik in 0 ABY, sometime shortly after the destruction of the first Death Star over Yavin 4, Imperial forces attacked the planet with at least two fighter wings, destroying the cannons. Elite Imperial pilot Ranulf Trommer played a prominent role in the battle and was later colloquially credited with single-handedly destroying the cannons, although he demurred from claiming the credit. After that victory, Trommer was transferred to the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Ravagor and fought in the Battle of Aguarl 3.[3]

Behind the scenes

Spefik was first mentioned in the Dark Horse comic River of Chaos 1 (1995), written by Louise Simonson. It provided part of the backstory of Imperial pilot Ranulf Trommer. His exploits at the battle helped establish his elite skills. The planet was later included in the 1998 video game Star Wars: Rebellion, which placed it within the Atrivis sector, although the game's encyclopedia entry for Spefik mistakenly spelled the sector "Artivas." Star Wars: Rebellion also provided an image of the planet; however, this image was also shared by 16 other worlds. Spefik was mentioned in the Star Wars Encyclopedia (1998), and, later, The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia (2008) repeated this entry verbatim.

Star Wars: Rebellion cartography

Star Wars: Rebellion provided travel times between planets within the same sector; however, on a number of occasions, these were significantly longer than other canonical sources. As such, these travel times seem to reflect game mechanics rather than canonical travel times. Nonetheless, the times given for Spefik were as follows:

Travel times Nam'ta Despayre Generis Moltok Fedje Zeffliffl To Coruscant
Spefik 8 days 4 days 4 days 4 days 3 days 6 days 27 days
