The spetan channelfish was a species of fish with two black eyes native to the oceans of the planet Ahch-To. The fish had and gray, pink and white scales covering their bodies and four tendril like appendages protruding from each corner of its mouth. The species possessed a pair of fins extending from below their two gill slits, one large dorsal fin and one small one, one rear ventral fin and a tail fin.[1] The Jedi Master Luke Skywalker caught spetan channelfish for food,[2] and in the year 34 ABY,[3] he captured a channelfish while the scavenger Rey watched,[2] using spearfishing techniques he had learned on the planet Lew'el and striking it on its left side between its eye and its gills.[1] He then carried the fish over his shoulder back to his residence in the Jedi village.[2]
Behind the scenes
A spetan channelfish first appeared in the film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi,[2] which was released on December 15, 2017.[4] The prop was not named in the film,[2] but received identification in Star Wars: The Last Jedi: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book written by Pablo Hidalgo[1] and released in conjunction with the film.[5]
