Jedi Master Plo Koon laments the Clone Wars[src]

A standard year,[1] also known simply as a year or a cycle,[2] was a measurement of time.

On Coruscant, a year was made up of twelve months[3] spanning 365 days of 24 hours each,[4] with no leap years.[5] The galaxy used a standardized dating system based off of the galactic capital Coruscant.[6] By the time of the New Republic, the Galactic calendar would use the Battle of Yavin as the epicenter on which to date years.[7]

On certain planets, including Lothal, a year was divided into four seasons (spring, summer, autumn, and winter) characterized by specific meteorological or climatic conditions.[8] The planet Lothal based its yearly calendar on a system known as Lothal Years.[9] A being's age was usually expressed in years.[10][11][12][13] The passage of a thousand years was referred to as a millennium.[14]

Behind the scenesEdit

In Pablo Hidalgo's internal chronology, standard months are named "January" through "December," and standard years counted so that the Battle of Yavin is dated "May 1977."[15][16]
