Publisher's summary[]

Jedi Dass Jennir and his companion Bomo Greenbark survived the Clone Wars, but the fate of Bomo's wife and daughter remains a mystery. The two friends are determined to find them, but their path leads them from danger to darkness—where each of them stands to lose more than they may hope to gain.

Meanwhile, Darth Vader must deal with some unpleasant realities—and memories—of his own. Though he is a Dark Lord of the Sith, even he must bow before the power of the Emperor.

Plot summary[]

After the Nosaurian resistance is utterly eliminated, former Jedi General Dass Jennir and Bomo Greenbark are the only survivors. Crawling out of the hole they fell into, the two head towards the spaceport to rendezvous with the Nosaurian families. When they get there, they find no traces of the others. Sneaking around, they come into contact with a friendly ship's captain. He invites them onboard and introduces them to his crew. When the battle-hardened survivors tell their story, they agree to help them. But first they have to deal with the problem of the Imperial patrols. They hatch a plan to steal an Imperial starfighter and force every ship at the Spaceport to escape at once. The plan succeeds and the crew of the Uhumele barely make it to hyperspace.

Their next step is to find out where the Nosaurians were taken, and they eventually discover they were taken as slaves to the nefarious planet, Orvax IV. Each crew member vows to help. They sneak into the slave pits, with a little surreptitious help from Dennir's force powers. The Nosaurians recognize Greenbark and tell him his daughter was sold and his wife killed while trying to save her. The crew of the Uhumele are forced to leave them to their fate.

Jennir then strikes out on his own to find Greenbark's daughter. He sneaks into a slave master's quarters and confronts him. After getting the information, Dennir was forced to shoot him so as not to betray his location, but in turn betrays his Jedi heritage. He then leads the crew to the mansion of the man who bought Greenbark's daughter. They confront him, and he agreed to have bought her, and then reveals he ate her for dinner. An enraged Greenbark screams and draws his blaster, but Jennir shoots the man first. Greenbark angrily tells Jennir that he is wrong to think he knows what is best for everybody. When the crew hears that he is a Jedi, they leave him. Jennir takes the dead man's ship and departs on his own, prepared to face questions about his actions.

Meanwhile, Darth Vader stands before his Master.
