The expansion adds several new maps and units, as well as an additional storyline revolving around the conquest of Tyber Zann and new types of gameplay, including playing as the Zann Consortium, a powerful crime organization and syndicate. It was released on October 24, 2006 in North America.

Contents

[edit] Gameplay

[edit] Campaign

The campaign follows the conquest of the intergalactic crime lord, Tyber Zann, and his underworld organization, the Zann Consortium between the events of the destruction of the first and second Death Star and right up to the climactic theft of the Eclipse-class Star Dreadnought. Tyber Zann corrupts planets with his Defilers in order to obtain information of the other two factions, sabotage, and to gain credits.

[edit] Galactic Conquest

Galactic Conquest gameplay remains very similar to the original Star Wars: Empire at War with a few major changes. The Zann Consortium's new corruption element is a new feature which provides bonuses to the competing factions in addition to the benefits provided to the Zann Consortium. Units produced from Cantinas and using bounty hunters to neutralize heroes cost significantly less on corrupted planets. As an additional bonus to Rebels, smugglers do not expire on corrupted worlds. Also, the original Death Star no longer appears, being replaced by the second one after being destroyed in the original game. The same goes for Red Squadron, which has been reformed into Rogue Squadron. Alderaan is now an asteroid field.

[edit] Skirmish

Land skirmish battles feature a new base building mechanic – outposts. Outposts can be captured like buildpads. Once captured, outposts build one of 3 structures, depending on the faction. The Mining Facility and Hutt Palace can be built by any faction while the other structure is unique to each faction: Repulsorlift Jammer (Zann Consortium only), Uplink Station (Rebellion only), and Magnapulse Cannon (Empire only).

[edit] Multiplayer

Mulitplayer has advanced since the original game, bringing in new maps and new teams. Players using the same version as you appear in blue, orange for password only games and red for locked games.

[edit] Critical Reaction

While many critics and gamers welcomed the new expansion, some decried it as being overly buggy--one particularly glaring bug that was pointed out often was the announcement of a 'ysalamiri cage constructing' when an enemy fleet was incoming. Also, Garm bel Iblis' 'shield flare' ability can glitch and cause the particle to remain for the duration of the battle. Both of these glitches were fixed in the 1.1 patch.

[edit] Screenshots

[edit] Mistakes

  • San Hill is featured in the game. In addition to that, he is a Human rather than a Muun, although it is possible this was deliberate.
  • Many errors are made on loading screens displaying supposed images of planetary inhabitants; Muuns, Utais and others are depicted as being identical to humans.
  • The position of many planets is incorrect; however, this can be written off as game mechanics.
  • In the last campaign of the game, it is possible to fight and destroy the Liberty, but the campaign is happening after the Battle of Endor. In this battle, the Liberty is destroyed by the Death Star II.
  • Venator-class Star Destroyer are depicted with 2 ion cannon batteries and 2 sets of concussion missile launchers. The real Venators had neither.
  • When using a corruption ability, such as piracy, the leader, such as Urai, would disappear permanently after the mission.
  • Transports could be sent into space without taking up reinforcement points, and the game lags heavily if this is done.
  • There are problems loading such as the inability for IG-88 hacking the Death Star II or a hologram continuously talking after a mission has been completed.
  • In some battles there are ships with the same names.
  • During a campaign, such as the Coruscant level, the fog of war is supposed to be permanent, but it is sometimes lifted completely for that mission.
  • IG-88 is playable in the final mission, even though it takes place after all four IG-88s had been destroyed.
  • Units do not often attack when ordered.
  • Some fighters often stay in one place when attacking a target.
  • Units are not selected when they are clicked.
  • In some cases, players are unable to get to tech level 5 for the rebellion in galactic conquest mode.
  • A number of ships are scaled and armed incorrectly
