The Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith toy line was introduced by Hasbro in 2005, and included characters and vehicles from the newly released Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. The initial toys, under the title of "sneak preview," were available before the film's release and consisted of four 3¾"-scale figures including the new characters of General Grievous, Tion Medon, Wookiee Warrior and R4-G9. A vehicle scaled with the new figures was also made available in the form of Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Starfighter. A small number of sets based on the original trilogy were also released alongside those based on Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.

Sculpting and articulation advancements made with the earlier Vintage Original Trilogy Collection were integrated into the regular line, and each figure included a stand recreating an environment from the film. The collection introduced Battle Packs with more action-oriented figure poses, while the Evolutions line of three packs paid homage to the series' heritage with figures from various eras.

For the first time, individual figures were released as retail exclusives with retailers such as Toys R Us and Target each receiving exclusives. Previous exclusives had been either available at conventions or on the internet.
