Star Wars: Shattered Empire is a four-part Star Wars comic book miniseries,[9] written by Greg Rucka[1] and penciled by Marco Checchetto[2] set between Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. The series is part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens multimedia program. It began publication on September 9, 2015[7] and concluded publication on October 21, 2015.[8] The trade paperback was released on November 18, 2015.[10]

Publisher's summaryEdit

Emperor Palpatine's twenty-year reign of terror came to an abrupt and fiery end in the skies above the forest moon of Endor. A decisive victory for the Rebel Alliance, to be sure, but even with the loss of its leadership, the Empire's Moffs and regional governors retained their hold on important systems from the Core to the Outer Rim, thanks to the might of the Imperial Starfleet. Now, with a power vacuum atop the Empire, those Moffs will jockey for position and control, and the heroes of the Rebel Alliance will soon discover that a wounded and fractious Empire may be more dangerous than any threat they faced before![11]

BackgroundEdit

Greg Rucka originally pitched a comic featuring Lando Calrissian with characters from his book Smuggler's Run: A Han Solo & Chewbacca Adventure, like Delia Leighton, Alecia Beck and TX-828. When Phil Noto's promotional art recreating the final shot of Return of the Jedi was shown at Celebration Anaheim, Rucka realized he would be "killed" when readers learned the original trilogy's heroes were not the focus, so he wrote a new pitch teaming them up with Poe Dameron's parents. Rucka pondered what Shara Bey's adventure with Luke Skywalker could be, as he did not want Luke searching for a holocron: Pablo Hidalgo suggested using the Force-sensitive tree from The Clone Wars series, which Rucka felt was a strong metaphor for rebuilding the galaxy.[12]
