Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is a paperback junior novelization of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. It was released on May 4, 2017, in honor of the 40th anniversary of A New Hope's theatrical release.[1]

The book updates the Star Wars Legends The Empire Strikes Back junior novelization, which was written by Ryder Windham. Egmont editor Emil Fortune has edited the book to make it fit with the current canon.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back states that Luke Skywalker hadn't heard Obi-Wan Kenobi's voice since the Battle of Yavin. However, he hears from Kenobi in The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure,[3] Choose Your Destiny: A Luke & Leia Adventure,[4] Star Wars (2015) 1,[5] and Star Wars (2015) 14,[6] which are set between these two events.
