This writing system was in common use throughout the Old Republic and continued to be used during the reign of the Galactic Empire.

Common useEdit

This script was commonly used to display information on small portable devices. Zam Wesell used this script to display targetting information on both her electro-goggles^[1][2] and sniper rifle optics.^[3]

It was also in use by the prominant Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, who used it to display information on the display screens of his Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor.

The ARC-170 that shot down Plo Koon's Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor was also kitted out with this script at the time of Order 66.

Information feeds often displayed information in this script as seen in Vos Gesal Street and throughout the wider Uscru Entertainment District on Coruscant.

Behind the scenesEdit

Star Wars '76 (while lacking an in-universe name) is an in-universe writing system further developed by Philip Metschan, based upon an earlier Joe Johnston typeface developed for Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and later used in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. The typeface can also be seen throughout Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.^[1][2]

Fans attempting to translate this font will have difficulty doing so, as Metschan only canonized the letters A through U.^[2][1]

The typeface can be seen printed on TIE pilot helmets in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and the Imperial speeder bikes in various behind the scenes images from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

Luke Skywalker's X-wing cockpit display also displays this script when translating R2-D2's warbles during The Empire Strikes Back.

The script also features prominantly on Obi Wan's Jedi Starfighter cockpit display screens and Zam Wesell's KiSteer 1284 projectile rifle's scope display in Attack of the Clones.^[1][2]
