It was released to newsstands the week of May 15, 2000. This issue celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. As such, the design for issue 49 took its inspiration from the 1980 publication Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back: Official Collectors Edition.
