Star Wars Unlimited Fan Club
From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.
The Star Wars Unlimited Fan Club (SWU) is a free Star Wars-based Fan Club. Members are able to participate in a variety of activities, including but not limited to Message Board discussion, Star Wars Scrambler, Star Wars Trivia, Book Discussion, Star Wars RPG and Sim, Debates, Fan Fiction, and Fan Art. Each Star Wars activity is organized into a Wing, or department. Each wing has a chatroom meeting once per week, in addition to its own message board and website.

[edit] SWU Wings
Every Star Wars activity is grouped into a department, or wing. These wings have leaders, assistant leaders, and a core group of active members. Here is a list of all wings in the SWU.
[edit] SIM Wing
A combination between chatroom role playing and fighting, the Sim Wing often reenacts popular Star Wars missions and battles. Creative thinking, as well as vivid actions, are praised.
[edit] Gaming Wing
A message board discussion group dedicated to the discussion of Star Wars video games. Currently, there are chatroom discussion for the wing, as well.
[edit] Trivia Wing
A chatroom, message board, and e-mail based Star Wars trivia department. One of the more popular wings, Trivia requires fast typing in order to answer before the time limit expires.
[edit] Scrambler Wing
A chatroom, message board, and e-mail based Star Wars scrambler department. Perhaps the most active wing, Scrambler hosts use a bot to randomly generate a mixed Star Wars word or phrase. Participants must unscramble the word quickly in order to make the time limit.
[edit] Book Wing
A message board and chatroom based wing involving the discussion and debate over Star Wars books, including plot elements, overall feel, and predictions.
[edit] Jedi Writers' Guild
JWG is the fan fiction and fan art wing. Members submit stories and artwork, receiving points for their work. Their work is also posted in the JWG archives. The Jedi Writers' Guild also has a chatroom "impromptu writing" meeting in which writers have one hour to write a story on a given topic and have it judged to determine a winner of the meeting.
[edit] Role Playing Wing
This department specializes in Star Wars e-mail and message board role playing. Members receive points based on the quality of the posts and scenerios.
[edit] Point System
SWU members are awarded points for their participation in the various activities that the club regulates, including chat room meetings, message board posts, and submissions. These points are an incentive for participation, as well as a measure of daily, monthly, and overall activity. The system also provides competition among fans for the Member of the Month award, which is awarded to the person who gains the most points in the course of one month. Here is a list of common ways to earn SWU points:
- Actively participate in SWU meetings
- Post on the AOL and Internet Forum Message Boards
- Participate in discussion strings sponsored by a Wing
- Participate in the E-Mail RPG, Trivia, or Scrambler
- Submit an article to the Newsletter
- Recruit members to the SWU
- Scorekeep at a Trivia Meeting
- Host a meeting or special event
As a member accumulates points, he or she will rise in rank. The SWU rank system groups members into activity levels. Furthermore, when a member obtains a certain amount of points, he or she may choose to go off the point system, and receive a self-chosen rank. More information on the point system, including Member of the Month archives, is available on the SWU website (see external links).
[edit] The High Council
[edit] Overview
The High Council is the governing and advising body of the SWU, consisting of some of the most active members. The High Council is made up of the High Council Advisor, High Council Advisor Assistant, Chief Advisor, and the seven Wing Leaders.
The HC has the power to suspend and expel any member and implement new concepts and decisions for the club, but only through majority agreement. However, there must be solid reasoning for the action to be taken. Every High Councilman must present his or her thoughts on the subject prior to voting. The HC may also advise to other wings and subwings, but they may not directly step into Wing Leader affairs.
[edit] High Council Members
[edit] High Council Advisor
The High Council Advisor, or HCA, is the "president" of the club. This person is the previous High Council Advisor Assistant (HCAA), unless an emergency presents itself where the previous HCAA does not or can not rise to office. They will keep the council informed of the various tasks needing attention. They will also make final decisions in major club matters. The HCA appoints an assistant, the HCAA, upon taking office. The HCA is the official representative of the SWU and is the official chairperson for HC meetings. The HCA has the option of being taken off the points system for the time they are in office if they so chose.
The HCA must meet the following requirements:
- Must have been active in the SWU for at least one year
- Must have been the previous HCAA
- Must be on good standing with the club members
[edit] High Council Advisor Assistant
The High Council Advisor’s Assistant, or HCAA, is the “vice president” of the club. The HCAA is chosen by the HCA as an apprentice to take charge of the club after the HCA leaves and also keep order in the HCA's absence. The HCAA may not "integrate or infer" into the position of HCA. (Ex: If the HCA is gone for an extended leave, the HCAA does not become the HCA.) Only when the HCA resigns or is otherwise removed from the position can the HCAA take the place of the HCA. The HCAA will maintain and keep an organized FAQ for the SWU. The HCAA is responsible for planning all club events.
The HCAA must meet the following requirements:
- Must have been active in the SWU for at least one year
- Must be on the HC when appointed to HCAA
- Must be appointed by the HCA
- Must be on good standing with club members
[edit] Chief Advisor
The Chief Advisor, or CA, is a special position approved by the HCA and HCAA. It is the CA’s job to advise the HCA and HCAA, as well as make detailed minutes of all HC meetings and send them to the HC and post them on the message boards. The CA is also responsible for maintaining a detailed listing of events and noteworthy items that will be kept in SWU History. The CA does not mediate or have control over the HC (unless the HCA and HCAA are not present). The CA does not change out with each new instatement of an HCA/HCAA, only if the CA resigns, or the HC and HCA/HCAA as a whole feel that the CA should be removed.
In the event the HCA resigns, quits, is impeached or otherwise removed from the position and the HCAA can not or does not wish to become the next HCA, the CA will serve as HCA until a replacement is voted upon by the HC.
The CA must meet the following requirements:
- Must have served in the club for at least five years
- Must be on the HC when appointed to CA
- Must be appointed/accepted by the HCA and HCAA
- Must be on good standing with the club members

[edit] Wing Leaders
The Wing Leaders are the department heads of each field of SWU. There are currently seven (7) active wings in the Star Wars Unlimited Fan Club. Each Wing Leader normally appoints one or two Assistant Wing Leaders, depending on the amount of sub-wings within the department. All Wing Leaders have final say in their wings, unless they break one of the requirements of their position.
The Wing Leaders are required to:
- Must have been an active member for 6 months.
- Must be the prior Assistant Wing Leader (unless circumstances prevent otherwise)
- Host at least one meeting per month
- Make sure there is a host for every session
- Make sure hosts report all points to the MPT, WL and Wing Message Boards
- Make sure their Wing members know the meeting times
- Watch over and tabulate their own board and forum posts on the Message Boards
- Keep an active Wing Roster
- Have only one Assistant Wing Leader (unless there are multiple sub-wings)
- Be a member of the HC

[edit] SWU History
The Star Wars Unlimited Fan Club was created in February 1997 by ThDuckster. The four original wings were the Corellian Intelligence Agency (E-Mail Trivia), the Federal Bothan Intelligence (Chatroom Trivia), Sim Wing, and Book Wing. In June of 1997, the Scrambler Wing was created. Later that year, the SWU newsletter was created. In April 1998, the SWU received AOL Message Boards. Later that year, the Jedi Writers' Guild was formed. Also, in 1999, two more wings were founded: the Jedi Artists' Guild, and the Role Playing Group. The current website of SWU was founded in February of 2000. In March of 2001, the Gaming Wing (NSC) was formed. E-mail Scrambler was created in August of 2001. Throughout the next three years, many changes shifted around the ruling body of the club. The CIA and FBI were organized into a single Trivia Wing, as were the JWG and JAG. Wing Leaders were given more power, and the point system was becoming more and more powerful. Finally, in 2003, the AOL boards were moved to Internet forums, and the wings were aligned as they are today, except for the Gaming Wing, which was reconstructed in 2004. In May 2005, one of the largest trivia sessions in the history of the club was held, with dozens of star wars fans popping in to answer questions about their favorite characters or books. The current HCA is AdmiralTreyDavid. The current HCAA is, SonOfYoungwood.
The SWU keeps detailed archives of past leaders, Members of the Month, and other facts. They are available for viewing on the main website.
