A stingfly was a type of insect. According to Thrawn, thousands of stingflies being encouraged to attack a tusklan from all sides would kill the creature. The use of stingflies as a hunting method took time and ruined the pelt of the tusklan, but the hunter remained safe as the tusklan didn't know where the attack came from.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
In the current Star Wars canon, Stingflies were first mentioned in the novel Thrawn, which was authored by Timothy Zahn and published in 2017.[1] They first appeared as Tactica pieces in Zahn's 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil.[2] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the stingfly was first mentioned in Zahn's 1997 novel Specter of the Past.[3]
