Strike Force: Shantipole is a Star Wars Legends adventure book for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. The adventure scenario tasks Rebel Alliance heroes with rescuing Commander Ackbar in the Roche asteroid field and keeping his secret project from falling into the hands of the Galactic Empire.

The Strike Force: Shantipole set includes a full-color interior map of the Research Station Shantipole and a Star Warriors combat scenario. Strike Force: Shantipole was written by Ken Rolston and Steve Gilbert, and published by West End Games in 1988. It was later republished in Classic Adventures: Volume Five in 1998.

Publisher's summary[]

Battle Imperial starfighters in the vastness of space, chase deadly probots through asteroid storms, and go up against a heavily-armed escort frigate in this explosive full-length Star Wars adventure.

In Roche Asteroid Field, a secret Rebel project nears completion. Headed by Commander Ackbar, the Shantipole project has developed a powerful new starfighter for the Alliance arsenal.

But first, Shantipole must be safely escorted back to Alliance High Command. That's where you and your team come in. With a borrowed freighter, sealed holodisc orders, and a good blaster at your side, your ship emerges from hyperspace — right in the middle of a TIE/LN starfighter patrol!

And they told you this was going to be a routine mission...

Continuity[]

Strike Force: Shantipole was reprinted in the supplement Classic Adventures: Volume Five in 1998 alongside Starfall and The Game Chambers of Questal. The statistics for the non-player characters featured in the adventure were updated to align with the Second Edition rules for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.

The original printing of Strike Force: Shantipole used stock photos and art from Lucasfilm Ltd. to illustrate the book. For the reprint in Classic Adventures: Volume Five, all new artwork was provided.

In the original printing of Strike Force: Shantipole, it is stated that the prototype B-wing starfighters that Commander Ackbar and the Verpine are working on is the two-man B-wing. This was changed in the reprinted version in Classic Adventures: Volume Five to state they are working on the original one-man B-wing starfighters, with an amended description about the ship that omits any mention of a gunner.

In the original printing of Strike Force: Shantipole, the EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate is described as a "new vessel" introduced after the Battle of Yavin. When the adventure was reprinted in Classic Adventures: Volume Five, this was changed to indicate that the Nebulon-B was not a new design, and had in fact been extensively used by the Alliance before. In the aftermath of the Battle of Yavin, the frigates had been given more importance and their use reevaluated by Imperial tacticians. This change was likely due to other materials, such as the video game Star Wars: X-Wing showing Nebulon-B frigates in common usage before the Battle of Yavin.

In the original printing of Strike Force: Shantipole, players were given the option to run space battles according to the Star Warriors: Starfighter Combat in the Star Wars Universe rules. These were removed in the reprint published in Classic Adventures: Volume Five.

In the original printing of Strike Force: Shantipole, the Alliance team sent to assist Commander Gial Ackbar were not detailed as they were dependent on the characters created by the players. The reprint in Classic Adventures: Volume Five added new artwork that established that the group of Alliance operatives sent to Shantipole included a Human, a Twi'lek, and a Snivvian.
