Succession pools were integral parts of damuteks. They were self-contained bodies of water that stored the heart, lungs, and livers of most Yuuzhan Vong buildings. They were also used as waste disposal systems, which would absorb the nutrients from the waste to nourish the damutek.

When the Yuuzhan Vong conquered Coruscant and Vongformed the planet into Yuuzhan'tar, the Western Sea became a giant succession pool.
