The Swift Wings were one of three roving Imperial fleets that patrolled the Tapani sector during the Galactic Civil War. The other fleets were the Tapani Defense Force and Ground Pounders.

The fleet was the fastest in the sector with a relatively short patrol route that primarily focused on the middle of the sector so that it could quickly respond to an emergency anywhere. Its main mission was to intercept and engage pirate fleets although, because of its relativity low firepower, required the assistance of one of the other Tapani fleets to be able to take on more powerful forces. Unlike the Ground Pounders fleet the Swift Wings were designed to destroy rather than seize their targets.
