The Sword law was a law on the planet Telerath during the Rise of the Empire era.

According to this law, all disputes had to be settled in a duel with an solid edged weapon. This law prohibited the use of blasters in almost any situation, except when an opponent violated the law with a blaster first, thereby ensuring that honor and a relative form of peace were preserved on the planet. Visitors to the planet were expected to abide by the Sword Law, although many first-time visitors who violated the law were given a brief reprieve. It was generally accepted that swords were wielded with the right arm, and so any being who could not fight with the sword in their right hand was considered inferior. Those who disobeyed the Sword Law often had their right hands removed as punishment, thereby preventing them from causing trouble in the future.
