The TIE/rpt starfighter, or TIE Raptor, was an unofficial, smaller variant of the standard TIE Fighter.
Characteristics
Like all TIE Series craft, the Raptor had a spherical cockpit with an octagonal forward window, but rather than the usual large wings on either side, it had four short fins protruding directly from the cockpit assembly at right angles to one another. Although not as fast as a TIE Interceptor, it was as maneuverable as an A-wing, and heavily armed, with four laser cannons and two concussion missile tubes. A few prototypes were also equipped with shields.
History
The TIE Raptor appeared in the years after the Battle of Endor and was designed by Warlord Zsinj's engineers in his shipyards at Dathomir for the exclusive use of his faction's forces.
Sienar Fleet Systems played no role in the project aside from creating the original TIE series design lineage, and the Raptor saw little or no use among units of the Imperial Navy loyal to central authorities. The name "Raptor" appears to have been a particular favorite of Zsinj's, as he also bestowed it on his black-armored elite commandos.
