The TIE/vn space superiority fighter, also known as the TIE silencer, was an angular variant of the TIE line starfighters used by the First Order. A product of Sienar-Jaemus Fleet Systems,[1] and with an aggressive design and equally impressive firepower, it was crafted specifically among the most elite members of the First Order.[4] As such, the fighter was engineered for speed and handling, though lesser pilots were still often overwhelmed and unable to maintain control of the nimble ship.[5][6] For armaments, the TIE/vn was armed with laser cannons and missile launchers.[1] Reminiscent in design of the Galactic Empire's TIE/IN interceptor and Darth Vader's TIE Advanced,[7] Kylo Ren used one such ship during the First Order–Resistance war.[1] It was derived largely from the TIE/D Defender from the Galactic Empire, owing to its parent organization tending to field prototypes, with the TIE/sf space superiority fighter also being derived from the same line. However, unlike the TIE/sf and its power cells, it uses a next generation power array protected beneath the hull, and had the ventral turret removed and the blasters and missile launchers relocated to the wing apertures, thus allowing for superior targeting and a wider range of fire.[2] Its blaster bolts are covered by a magnetic field when fired.[2] It also included experimental stealth gear meant to foil sensors. Sienar-Jaemus likewise when developing the fighter line looked forward to the day when they'd mass-produce the fighters for the frontline units.[2]

Behind the scenesEdit

The TIE/vn space superiority fighter was created and developed for Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi,[1] the upcoming eighth film in the Star Wars saga, which is scheduled for release on December 15, 2017.[8] The ship was officially revealed on The Star Wars Show on July 19, 2017.[9] The TIE silencer was named by the Lucasfilm Story Group's Pablo Hidalgo. Although Hidalgo initially considered the name "TIE vendetta," he eventually decided on the name "TIE silencer," but kept the old name's initials ("/vn") in the full technical name.[10]

The TIE silencer was introduced to the non-canon video game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes on November 9, 2017.[11]

The TIE silencer was included in the video game Star Wars Battlefront II,[12] which was released on November 17, 2017.[13]
