"The factory is operating at 50 percent production capacity. We have ten garrisons of new droids ready to deploy."
―TX-21 to Poggle the Lesser — (audio) Listen (file info)[src]

TX-21 was a masculine T-series tactical droid that served under Geonosian Archduke Poggle the Lesser in his droid foundry on Geonosis. Around 22 BBY, during the Clone Wars, the droid was stationed within the foundry during a battle on the planet of Geonosis. Outside the foundry, the Republic force was planing on destroying the foundry. TX-21 revealed to Poggle that the foundry had ten garrisons of new battle droids ready to be deployed. The Geonosian structure also housed new Confederate super tanks, a ray shielded tank capable of withstanding enemy fire, which were released on the attacking Republic forces outside the foundry. Soon, however, Poggle and the droid were alerted by a Geonosian that intruders had breached the foundry. The droid and Poggle confronted the intruders—Jedi Padawans Barriss Offee and Ahsoka Tano—and and had their forces deactivate the thermal detonators planted on the foundry's generator. In the ensuing combat, Tano tossed a detonator at a super tank next to TX-21 in an attempt to destroy the tank; TX-21 boasted that the tank was impervious to the weapon but neglected to consider his own safety. When the detonator exploded the tank was indeed unscathed, but TX-21 was destroyed.

Biography

"You heard his highness. Collect their pathetic little bombs, then we will kill them."
―TX-21 to Poggle's Geonosian guards — (audio) Listen (file info)[src]

A masculine[2] T-series tactical droid, created by Baktoid Combat Automata,[3] TX-21[4] served under Geonosian Archduke Poggle the Lesser in his new droid foundry on the planet Geonosis.[2] Around 22 BBY,[1] during the Clone Wars, the droid was stationed within the foundry with Poggle during a battle on Geonosis. The Galactic Republic force mounted an attack on Poggle's new droid foundry, seeking to destroy it. TX-21 told Poggle that the foundry was operating at fifty percent production capacity, although they had ten new garrisons of battle droids on standby.[2] The new Confederate super tanks, a ray shielded tank capable of withstanding enemy fire, was approaching operational status as well.[4]

As the ongoing battle continued outside the foundry, TX-21 told Geonosian fighters via hologram to commence a surprise attack on the Republic force. Moreover, the droid urged Poggle to allow him to deploy the new super tanks, which the Archduke agreed upon. Soon after the droid sent a comlink transmission to launch the super tanks, a Geonosian entered the room and alerted Poggle and TX-21 of the intruders—Jedi Padawans Barriss Offee and Ahsoka Tano—that breached the foundry. Both Poggle and the droid were unaware that two Jedi had secretly entered the foundry to destroy the main generator. TX-21 commented that no one could have gotten past the foundry's security, but, nonetheless, Poggle and the droid confronted the intruders. Accompanied by Geonosian fighters and a super tank, Poggle ordered his fighters to deactivate the Padawans' thermal detonators, that were planted around the foundry's generator.[2]

TX-21 oversaw the Geonosian fighters' progress after Poggle left the generator room. As the Padawans struggled to fight the Confederate force, Tano pulled down her backpack and tossed a thermal detonator at the super tank next to TX-21. The bomb latched onto the tank's outer hull, prompting TX-21 to remark about the tank's invulnerability to attack. However the droid became too caught up in his boasting and did not take his own self-preservation into account—the detonator exploded and blew TX-21 into pieces.[2]

While serving Poggle the Lesser, TX-21 showed his gratitude toward the Geonosian Archduke by giving information regarding the status of certain procedures the foundry was undergoing to him. He was clearly very proud of the weaponry he had built and enjoyed boasting its power to others, as when Tano tossed a detonator on a super tank, which was next to TX-21, the droid did not try to escape it, but instead mockingly told Tano about the tank's power of withstanding enemy fire.[2] On his chest, TX-21 had bug-like markings, reflecting his position of servitude to the Geonosians.[4]

Behind the scenes

TX-21 first appeared as an unnamed tactical droid in the second season trailer of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series.[5] The droid made his debut in the "newsreel" of "Landing at Point Rain," the fifth episode in the second season of the same television series which aired on November 4, 2009.[6] The following week, the droid reappeared in "Weapons Factory," which aired on November 13, 2009. While the droid was not named in the episode, he was designated TX-21 in the episode's accompanying episode guide.[4] TX-21 also appeared on a Halloween episode of the Today show, where the entire cast dressed up as famous Star Wars characters. Weather Anchor Al Roker was invited to the studio, where he recorded a Halloween message over TX-21's lines. Additionally, TX-21 was redesigned to have a suit and tie, and was renamed "Albot."
