Talk:Strident-class Star Defender

[edit] Class
"In order to prevent confusion, the Viscount and Strident class are one and the same. Stridents are built at Corellia while Viscounts are built at Mon Calamari." Does anyone else find this, uh, confusing? They actually have different names for the same class of ship, depending on where it was built? I haven't read any of the NJO books, so can anyone fill me in on how this is supposed to work? JimRaynor55 05:28, 17 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- It is indeed very confusing, but I do not have Agents of Chaos II myself. Admiral J. Nebulax 13:20, 17 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- I would imagine that the Viscounts and Stridents are not completely the same, since the different cultures would invariably lead to different design aspects. Then there's the rl example of Germans calling captured Soviet tanks something differently when they used them, but that might be a false analogy. :/ VT-16 10:05, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
- So confusing... Admiral J. Nebulax (talk) 13:30, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
Going back to this discussion, what is the source for the quote above? Is it actually stated anywhere that Stridents and Viscounts are the same class? VT-16 18:08, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- I doubt they're the same. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

[edit] Size
What is the source on this ship's size? As far as I'm aware there has been no published material regarding this ship's length. Rhysode 11:07, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- It's not an actual size, it's more of an estimation based on context of the novels. Stuff like that is done all over Wookieepedia when there is no exact size. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)
11:08, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- If the size isn't mentioned in the text, and it doesn't appear in any visual source (like a comic book, animated series, or live-action film) allowing us to make an estimate, any guesses should be left off the page. —Silly Dan (talk) 11:03, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- But we have rough estimates for other ships, don't we? Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)
12:41, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- We shouldn't, unless we can base it on something solid (like a picture, technical stats in a sourcebook, or a passage in a novel comparing it to something of known size.) If the 3,200 m or 1,200 m lengths are based on anything, would the editors please say so on the talk page? —Silly Dan (talk) 13:18, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

- The orginal Source for the description quoted above is from a site called [htpp://www.swrpgnetworks.com] and the entry dates back to June 24,2001 prior to any official specs were released. I'd say the Wizards of the Coast Specs superceede SWRPGnetworks since they are official specs produced by the company with the licsence for the star wars RPG.--CEORaithSienar 17:38, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'd have to agree. Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- The size of the Strident is given as around the length of the Galactic-class Battle Carrier Dodonna, which, due to its increased tonnage, is superior to the Stridents, but the Dodonna, in Betrayal, is mentioned as the only ship in the Fleet at Corellia that can take down a Strident. --Sinre 12:43, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Picture
I found a picture of this ship (don't know if it's cannon though) :
- There is no canon image of this ship, so kindly don't post any more until we have future sources which may display it. —Jaymach Ral'Tir (talk) 18:49, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- It's a very well made image, though, so it'd be good to know where it's from so we can (a) reject other images from that site as probable fanon and (b) appreciate them as attractive speculation. 8) —Silly Dan (talk) 19:00, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- Wow, that is a good image... Too bad it's fan-made. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- I found the picture on this site, along with a couple of other pictures which are certainly canon, like the TYE-wing, the Venator-class Star Destroyer, the Nebulon-B Frigate and the Sovereign-class Star Dreadnought. As I said, these images are certainly canon. Snoop 09:44, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- No, they aren't. A few of them are, without a doubt, fan-made images. The first Venator one seems to come from a game, but the rest are fan-made. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- Besides, there are no images of a Sovereign-class Star Dreadnought, minus the silhouette one that we use. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- Okay, thanks for the info! Snoop 12:28, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- That's the thing—always make sure to check that an image is canon before you put it somewhere. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)
12:34, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- That's exactly why I put the photo here, and not directly on the main article. Guess there's not a canon picture for the ship, then! (resigned sigh) Snoop 12:38, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Because there is none. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- What does that have to do with that fanon picture? (replying to post now in "Size" section) Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- Sorry, wrong section. Fixed.--Sinre 19:30, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry to post in an old topic, but someone asked where the picture came from, it is an image made by Evil Jedi for the Homeworld 2 mod, Star Wars: Warlords. His site has many images of ships, 'most' of them are canonical, but as stated above that one isn't/ http://warlords.swrebellion.com/g2/main.php/v/Development/?g2_page=3
- Well, thanks. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)
