Number of the 442nd[]

I would like to add a note to the Behind the scenes section regarding the historical 442nd, which is likely the source of the unit's number (much as the Legends 187th Legion takes its number from Samuel L. Jackson's first top-billed movie role).

I think this information would be of interest to readers curious about the clone legions and where their names and numbers come from.

Specifically, I'd like to include this note:

The 442nd shares a number with the 442nd Infantry Regiment, the most highly decorated military unit in American history. It fought in World War II, and was composed almost entirely of the descendants of Japanese immigrants.

  • Because of this section of the Layout Guide I don't believe it is relevant to the article, unless a Star Wars source states as such. We would also have to include non-relevant OOU and real life information of all the other articles, which just isn't necessary.--Vitus InfinitusTalk 20:29, August 6, 2018 (UTC)
    • I think the information is relevant under that section (emphasis mine):
Origin of subject: In what Star Wars project did the subject first appear or was first mentioned, first pictured, or first named? Was the subject named after a real-world person or based upon a real-world subject or event? For film articles, detail a subject's real-world filming location.
We don't have an official source naming the origin of the 442nd, so far as I know, but it's nonetheless likely relevant. The soon-to-be canon 332nd Battalion is also named for a distinguished WWII unit drawn from a minority ethnic group (the Tuskegee Airmen).
So far as I can tell, there's no prohibition on unsourced behind the scenes information (so long as it's factual). The layout guide does discuss author-released statements regarding intent, but separately, as another category of information to be included.
As a fan of the clone army, I find this information interesting and useful, which is why I'd like to add it to the article. (I came across this information specifically because I was trying find out about the 442nd Siege Battalion).

      • That's all speculation, the 442nd might have been named because it was someone's favorite number, or if we're talking real life military the or 442nd Rocket Brigade or any other real life thing with 442. Unless there is an official Star Wars source that states that the 442nd Siege Battalion was inspired by the 442nd Infantry Regiment, we really shouldn't be speculating and adding that information.--Vitus InfinitusTalk 21:18, August 6, 2018 (UTC)

Using entertainment earth as a source[]

Should we? We don’t know if the story group approved that description. They could have just made it up.--Afilmfanforlife (talk) 20:39, January 5, 2019 (UTC)
