Bacta is synthesized kolto... Edit

in Knights of the old republic Kolto is the only healing source, and they mention that "all attempts to synthesize it have failed". i thought that was pretty implicative that Bacta was synthesized kolto...

  • I thought about that when I played KotOR, it may be truth, so I agree. -- Adler 08:28, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

In the article, it's written that kolto was bacta's, "short-lived compedetor." Well, we don't really know if it was, "short-lived." KoTOR took place about 4000 years before the films, so it's unclear when bacta was invented. I believe that bacta being synthesized kolto is quite possible, but again, there's too much of a time gap to make any assumptions.Darth Revan 5873 00:09, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Darth Revan 5873

Concentrated Bacta Edit

When this article is completed, could someone put details on the concentrated bacta that Corran Horn got in the X-wing series? Thanks.

  • See the Potency section: relevant quote added, factors determining strength of bacta added, note on quality of bacta distributed added --Morgandival 03:56, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Use of Bacta in old age Edit

Could a senior citizen live forever as long as s/he took a bacta bath once a day? --68.102.193.78 12:27, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

I don't think so. Bacta only works with injuries, right? (Correct me if I'm wrong.)Darth Revan 5873 00:11, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Darth Revan 5873

Well bacta is used to like what, restimulate the cells into quicker reproduction right? i guess if you were to use it once daily (bear in mind bacta costs $$), one could use it to keep the organs in good shape, to keep the liver reproducing and the blood equally thined. I did a roleplay where i had personaly used highly refined bacta (to the point its not even really bacta anymore) to keep myself alive. Crawler

in real life it wouldent work. most of the effects of old age are from the cells inability to replicate. bacta wouldent stop that.but its star wars so who knows.however kolcta(kolto/bacta hybrid) is said to be able to stop and reverse the ageing process(that may be the super bacta you used).diobern 03:21, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Geriatric use of bacta Edit

I don´t know but personally I think that bacta can´t be used in geriatric purporses(sp?) and it´s only use is healing wounds. If you´re Starwars.com Hyperspace member you can use QaA(I´don´t know how to type that fancy curved ,,and"" thingy) function at http://www.starwars.com 82.99.141.110 21:30, 20 August 2006 (UTC) "

  • I don't believe that bacta was ever used for, or known to have properties that delayed or prevented the aging process. The reason being that if it could do that, a lot of people long dead would still be alive. --Morgandival 04:02, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

The "AND" Thingy Edit

Hold down shift and push the number 7 key. Example: &

Geriatry Edit

By the way geriatric means medicals proocesses aimed to reverse/slow down aging, and care for the elderly. For the case that some one does not now.

Bacta Only Manufactured on Thyferra?? Edit

Hi, new to wiki editing (I generally only corrected typos and such and just made and account to actually maybe help contribute more substantially) so forgive (and correct) me if there are any problems with this edit.

In the article the line

The Vratix were willing to share the technology, but the substance could only be made on their homeworld where the needed resources were abundant.

is incorrect isn't it?"

I just finished reading the X-Wing series novels The Krytos Trap and the Bacta War and they say that Bacta could be and was produced elsewhere at different times (by the end of the Bacta War it was even being produced in the Alderaan Biotics facility on Borleias, but the Empire limited production to just Thyferra. The Vratix are necessary for production, but not the planet as far as I understand. Some relevant bits from the novel (sorry for the length and number of excerpts, the evidence for there having been other bacta producing facilities is sort of spread out, I edited out the bits that weren't as pertinent):

From the Krytos Trap

The healing properties of bacta were discovered during the days of the Old Republic. ... The corporations which now control Thyferra and bacta ... set up many satellite manufacturing centers, all under license, all with Vratix verachen overseeing the final processes no matter where they took place..."
"You mean there once was competition for the bacta market?"
"For more time than there has not been, but all of it before you were born...
The Emperor decided that the only group that should have a guaranteed supply of bacta was his military. He systematically suppressed small manufacturers of bacta in favor of Zaltin and Xucphra. They realized greater profits by letting the marketplace set the price and utilized Imperial soldiers to wipe out independent growers and to round up all the verachen to return them to Thyferra.

From the Bacta War

For example, bacta produced at a satellite facility would be shipped back to Thyferra before being transshipped to a world a dozen light-years away from the facility where it was produced.
Under the Empire's rule, the Xucphra and Zaltin corporations had been given a monopoly on the production of bacta. Thyferra served as the heart of the operation, with alazhi harvesting and kavam synthesis taking place primarily on Thyferra, but also at a few colony worlds elsewhere.
Yeah, they would not have liked it if it were known we were using the Alderaan Biotics facility there to make rylca and, eventually, enough bacta to dent their monopoly.

  • All of the above information is valid. It should go in the History section. --Morgandival 03:59, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Stored on Bespin?Edit

"Republic during the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire only allowed bacta to be produced on Thyferra, which was then stockpiled on Bespin."

Is there any support for this statement? Why would Bacta be shipped across the galaxy to be stored at a planet known for its mining and refining of Tibana gas?

Is it a typo? Bestine is much closer to Thyferra

First appearance Edit

I was watching the 'Building Empire' DVD the other day and there was a reconstruction of a deleted scene from Empire Strikes back with what looked like a page from the Empire Strikes Back comic. The medical droid specifically mentioned 'bacta'.

Am I correct, or is this from a later comic strip?
