Didn't Juhani mention this battle being before the Republic entered the war? Kuralyov 18:48, 15 Sep 2005 (UTC)

  • She did, but it was retconned by the NEC... --Sentry 01:29, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
    • Which makes absolutely NO sense, does it? A sourcebook overriding what is said in the game? Making everything messed up? Juhani tells us that she considered Taris her "homeworld", which would imply that she lived there longer than she did on Cathar. She also says she met Revan's Jedi on Taris when they were "going off to fight the Mandalorians". Since Revan enters the war after the Battle of cathar, this means this meeting must have taken place pretty soon after the Battle of Cathar. Yet, Juhani is supposedly still pretty a baby... uh ok... confused. Uhhh... GOD, the NEC was poor with continuity... we have the Juhani article telling us she was BORN in 3963 now for crissakes.

Why can't we just IGNORE the instances when the NEC is clearly wrong? Why? (195.92.168.166 12:59, 5 November 2006 (UTC))

Ok, here's a question. What *exactly* does the NEC say? Does it say that it is "directly" after the battle of Cathar that Revan goes to war against the Mandalorians? Or does it, like the Revan article, say that it is after the "full details of the battle of Cathar became known". If it's the latter, then it is possible to reconcile the NEC with the information we get from KotOR I - it's simply a case that the full details weren't known for several years. (Ulicus 17:48, 5 November 2006 (UTC))
  • The Cathar genocide took place many years before the Mandalorian Wars.
"Twenty years ago the Mandalorians, aware the Republic was in a weakened state, began conquering small worlds on the Outer Rim. They were careful to choose only planets outside the Republic's jurisdiction. The Mandalorians stockpiled resources from their conquered worlds, preparing for a massive assault. Seven years ago they launched a simultaneous attack in three separate sectors of Republic space. The Senate had no choice but to retaliate with the entire Republic fleet. The Mandalorian Wars had begun."
―Master Dorak

    • Only problem with that, is that the date for the beginning for the Mandalorian Wars was retconned. Jasca Ducato Sith Council Sith Campaign 11:04, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
      • I see but shouldn't that suggest other dates need to be shifted? I mean we do have a grown up cathar Jedi Knight and Master Dorak's speech there, but no absolute dating in the game (which is the only real thing that can't be corrected), so is there any reason why the Battle of Cathar and Juhani's birth shouldn't be corrected to be as earlier in history as they can? Maybe one of the first extra-republic systems to be attacked?--Jinger 12:34, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

He's talking about this article Jasca. Even though JJM has done a great job with how the Mandalorian Wars began in the KotOR comics (Despite initial confusion), the Battle of Cathar's placing is still incorrect when you factor in what everyone else says and Juhani's backstory. Wallace made a mistake, and I'm worried that if we don't change things ot reflect the truth soon, then the mistake will be repeated in the comics. (Ulicus 12:30, 10 February 2007 (UTC))

Date Edits Edit

I have edited the article to better reflect the information we are given in game. I've included those elements of the NEC that don't outright contradict anything Juhani says, but the notion of the battle being faught during 3963 BBY has been jettisoned. It is simply *impossible*. Contradictory information is not a retcon. A retcon is something that *explains* and *fixes* contradictory information. I've given it my best shot.

Obviously the "Non-canon date" tag should remain. It is, however, the *real* best guess... unlike 3963 BBY. (Ulicus 02:16, 24 February 2007 (UTC))

Point taken about the date of the Battle of Cathar. In my defense, the NEC says only that the Jedi fought the Mandalorians "after the Cathar incident," which could conceivably be MANY YEARS after the Cathar incident without representing an outright contradiction. Dan 03:45, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

  • S'all good. When you're dealing with that much information there are bound to be a couple of mistakes that slip through. The problem comes when people adhere to those mistakes and see them as retcons. :) And you're right, the exact wording is open to interpretation.... (Ulicus 10:02, 1 June 2007 (UTC))
