Proper NameEdit

The Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook clearly states that this battle is called the "Battle at Sluis Van Shipyards". This sounds like a technicality, I know, and even I'm disgusted with myself for bringing it up, but... Basically, shouldn't it be changed since a source literally names it something else?--SOCL 05:43, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

Who won it? Edit

I know that the New Republic can claim victory because the Imperial Fleet ultimately withdrew, but it's hard for me to believe that the New Republic won the battle with over 43 capital ships severely damaged with only the loss of a few Imperial fighters. I can believe the argument that the battle was disappointing for the Empire because it failed to accomplish its objectives, but it's hard for me to believe that such a devastating blow for the Republic could be construed as a victory, Phyrric or not. What does everybody else think? 166.82.102.190 04:34, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

  • It's a "victory" in the sense that Thrawn's Big Plan that he'd been working on for a long time was thwarted, costing him precious time and resources. But it's still hard to actually call it a victory for the New Republic. -LtNOWIS 05:56, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
    • Agreed. I think dubbing it phyrric conveys the wrong outcome of the battle. What about calling it a draw? That seems far more believable. It concedes that Thrawn did not achieve the objectives that he set out to achieve and withdrew the fleet. It also concedes that the battle was incredibly harmful for the Republic in terms of number of ships damaged. The question is would calling it a draw be a violation of canon? Thanks. 71.48.30.63 22:12, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
      • perhaps a "draw" is the best way, but still a real "draw" is it not. i would call it a "strategical draw, but a tactical imperial victory" why? for the overall strategy, neither thrawn (getting new ships) nor the republic was succesfull, hence a strategical draw. but broken down on this battel alone, it is a tactical imperial victory, the imperials lost a few fighters and troopers, while the republic had 43 heavy damaged ships and the shipyards thrown into chaos, perhaps even damaged to some point (if not devastated).Fleetadmiral Jack Ryan 23:40, January 18, 2010 (UTC)
