There's a bit of ambiguity in what these guys look like -- some Expanded Universe material describes Bimms as small, half-furred humanoids with long faces and big ears (this is how they're shown in the 1998 edition of The Essential Guide to Planets and Moons). Others (like the old West End Games sourcebooks) show them as looking like short humans (this page identifies a Bimm in Mos Eisley who appears to be a "little person" without makeup.) The Essential Guide to Planets and Moons claims that there are two species called Bimms on the same planet -- is this still canonical? Silly Dan 21:53, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • I think that's how it was in The Essential Guide to Alien Species, but I don't have my books with me. I also remember they were drawn as furry and floppy-eared in the Heir to the Empire comic adaptation, and I think the novel.-LtNOWIS 15:10, 6 May 2005 (UTC)
    • Bimm -- according to The Essential Guide to Alien Species are as follows: There are two species of Bimm, one a small near-human race, the others are furry, floppy-earer humanoids. They both live together, and it says that the humanoid Bimms came to Bimmisaari from a nearby system, adopted the original Bimm's culture, and blended in, intermarrying them. What I just stated is exactly what is in the article already. The higher canon (being the essential guides) overrules the West End Games sourcebooks. -- Riffsyphon1024 18:48, 6 May 2005 (UTC)
      • To clarify, the Essential Guides *aren't* higher canon; however, they are newer and more widely available, both of which both factor into "case-by-case" examination of canon sources that are on equal footing (though they aren't the only considerations Lucasfilm uses). More importantly, the EGAS doesn't *contradict* WEG; we can simply assume that the sourcebooks used only one of the two species for their illustrations (their physical description in the sourcebooks, or at least the Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook, is vague enough - consisting of only the fact that they're short and that their bodies are "half-haired" - to apply to both species). JSarek 20:04, 6 May 2005 (UTC)
        • The EGAS also shows only the floppy-eared kind. -- Riffsyphon1024 21:06, 6 May 2005 (UTC)
          • I believe that the furry, floppy-eared, species are a distant near-Human race but because of their evolution they can not mix with the more Human-like Bimm species. Dose enyone support this idea?--Endor chicken
            • They are specifically described as two biologically unrelated species. —Silly Dan (talk) 21:44, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
          • Well, they might be two biologically unrelated "near-Human" species. How is that idea?--Endor chicken
            • You can believe whatever you like, but if the book says one is near-Human and the other is merely humanoid, that's what we must adhere to in the article. Gonk (Gonk!) 16:42, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A New Hope

I'm, getting really ticked at people saying things are in the movies when they are not. Is there a source for saying there are humanoid Bimms in ANH or is it fanboy crap?Darth Ceratis 21:19, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

  • See this page, linked above. It was made by Pablo Hidalgo back when he worked for West End Games, and contains a screenshot, so I'd say it's reliable. —Silly Dan (talk) 22:14, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
    • The picture seems really ambiguous to me. The guy could just as easily be an ugnaught or something from what we see of him.Darth Ceratis 23:36, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
      • When you consider that behind the scenes stills and unused footage, such as those used for Rycar Ryjerd's CCG and Holiday Special appearances, give a much better view of the character, and that Ugnaughts didn't appear until the next film, it's pretty clear that a Bimm did appear in ANH. Keep an eye out next time you see the Cantina scene. —Silly Dan (talk) 03:17, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
      • There's a better screenshot on the previous page, too. —Silly Dan (talk) 03:33, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
        • All I'm seeing is the top and back of the guy's head. It just doesn't seem to be distinctive enough. But CCG's done a lot of stuff like this, so I guess I can live with it.Darth Ceratis 17:06, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Humanoid or near-human?

Could we clear this up? The intro describes them as humanoid, but the Biology section describes them as Near-Human. Wookieepedia defines the two as different. Smellynerfherder 17:59, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

  • If you read further on, you'll see that there are two Bimm species. One is Near-Human, but the other is not. However, since the term "humanoid" is more general than "Near-Human", both species can be described as humanoid. —Silly Dan (talk) 21:34, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
